Any difference between the 2 Velociraptors?

Hmm, don't know what you mean

Do you mean the Capacity like the 74GB to 150GB to 300GB or the actual physical size as 1 is in a caddy and other is not ?.

They are the exact same, 1 is in a caddy so it fits a normal 3.5" bay and the other is for Server/Enterprise use.

Beware as the earlier caddy and this caused issues in some uses with the position of the SATA port/power sockets and they also had a early firmware that got around 103MB/Sec over newer firmware at about 108MB/Sec. (approx and will vary on different Mobo's).

Ok, 1 problem though i just checked and there is only 1 in stock of the newer version, so unless they get stock within about a week il have to order the older version

Which one is the new firmware one?

The 300GB could be either but if its the new "backplane" model its the newer one.

The 74GB/150GB are all new "backplane" models anyhow.

Cheers helmutcheese,

Is theres no part number or something to allow me to verify? Was hoping for the 300Gb one to replace my old 150Gb Raptor...

I presume the 150Gb and 300Gb have identical performance figures other than the 300Gb is a 2 platter HD

Seem to be same speed regardless (well 150GB and 300GB so far as no 74GB actually sold yet).

The (WD3000HLFS) comparing Model Number to the new 150GB and the fact the peep above checked up in store and they said they have only 1 of the newer type left in stock. :)

Thanks helmut,

Also worked out the model differences - HLFS is the one to get since it has the new backplane and from what you are saying the new firmware that improves sustained speed...

Another question - do these accept the old SecureConnect cables (cant see a molex power connector on your picture) or the new SureConnect cables? Do they even matter now?

Sorry for all the questions ;)
