hi guys i am getting over 90 degress on my 9800gx2 when gaming i have a thermaltake case with plenty good airflow i use rivatuner to up the fan to 80%

can you take the casing off the 9800gx2 or is there a aftermarket cooler for this card ?

any help much appreciated

thanks

That isn't too bad. It's two cards stuck together so it's bound to get hot. As long as your games are running fine and the card is stable then theres nothing to worry about.

That does seem a bit high, I have a 9800 GX2 from Leadtek which runs at around 75-80C with 68% fan speed while gaming and drops to around 50C when not gaming.

i wouldnt take the casing off as it wont make much difference to your temps. The only aftermarket coolers are waterblocks and they look extremely difficult to fit and even then cost a lot of money

I have the same leadtek card as Empz, and get very similar temps. I have found that the default profile is pretty poor, and usually have it set to 80% most of the time. Whilst folding it hits ~76, and this goes up a bit when gaming. Highest i have seen is 88C, but that was without a custom fan setting. I asked about temps the other day (i just got this card) and was told that one of the best ways to cut temps is to have a fan that pulls air out of the side of the card through the vents. However, i have quite a small case, and dont really want to hack a hole in the side panel.

just took the cards apart (wow was i scared ) and put some artic silver on there and still the temps get better.

ok without the casing the card looks ugly but the temps dropped dramaticaly
