Just finished buliding my new rig and the temps of my sapphier 4870X2 is 85oC is this normal? i dont think it is?

:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I would not pannick to much some cards idle hot and don't go up much when under load but as i said up the gpu fan as ati cards seem to come with very low fan speeds atm.

So are you saying that you have got the gpu fan running on 100%. Try running a game see what the temps are like under some load. If they go mad then get an rma it does not take long from ocuk from my own experience.

No all case fans are on 100% but GPU fan is not. Just dont know how to up the GPU fan speed? can it be done in CCC?

Thanks

You could try and use the latest ATT that will allow you to set up fan profiles for both 2D and 3D use.

I used it until I decided to extract the BIOS from my 4870 and then modify the T-min and Max values and then reflash it back to the card.

Now it is a lot cooler at idle and within 3D games :)

EDIT: I should have added. I went to the 'extreme' of modifying my BIOS as ATT, even though it is continually developed and supported well, did not work for me as well as it should have when I used it to create a 2D and 3D profile for my fan. You will find one or two people who have reported erratic behaviour of the fan settings when applied with ATT. Modifying and flashing the BIOS, not without risk of course, has resolved this for me. Oh and I fixed the fan start up problem when the PC boots, it used to ramp up the speed of the fan twice.

Just looked in GPU-Z and it seems only 1 of the cores is running at 85oC the other is 45.

Seems to be just the one core :confused:

Its because 1 core is running at full 3d speed and the other is running at downclocked 2d speeds. Look down the bottom at the 2 core speeds and you should see one around 500 and the other 750.

I dont know guys i cant tell, possibly, im just a noob to this 4870 X2 stuff only been use to one core in the past
