Danger in deodorant flamethrower?

the best "flamethrower" Aerosol used to be WD-40, but they changed the ingredients (the base fluid no less) to one that is non-flammable so that people would stop :(

alcohol needs to be 100 proof to light which i think is ~50% ABV though there are some under that which will light such as sambuca...

i doubt any wine would set on fire

edit- i did a search and apparantly you can set wine on fire, you're meant to boil it first or something o_o
edit 2- ok now i want to know what art project you are doing which requires wine and fire :p

What absolute tosh!

Why is it that people post something they heard/vaguely remember/made up on the spot as though 100% fact?

And instead of proclaiming it as tosh and leaving it at that why not educate us all with the real facts so I can be sure not to make the same mistake he has :)

Until this thread popped up I'd recently been thinking I'd led a sheltered life. Then the memories of fire came back...

Me and my mates used to go buy a cheap deodrant from the local chemist, then head out to the woods or the park and use them as flame throwers. We never kept them pressed down for too long though just incase. We flame grilled a mini cheddar once I seem to remember!

Another interesting trick was to write something on concrete with deodrant and then light it. Though doing it inside does tend to set off fire alarms.

When stuck on a fire they blow up really very loudly.

Yes, I've been stood a couple of metres away from one that was thrown in a fire and blew up. Luckily the shrapnel went in the opposite direction, because when we found it the remains of the can had formed a sharp edged metal frisbee of death.

Of course I know now what we used to do was very dangerous. Don't do it. Its not big and its not clever. If I'd been standing on the other side of the fire who knows what injuries I could have got.

PK!

Brake Cleaner is by far the best I've used. Makes Lynx etc look like a toy ;)
Yup! That and WD40 which squirts a burning stream of fire that sticks to the target and continues burning :D

Hairspray makes the best giant hot yellow ball of fire though :)
