After finishing Cysis with it's buggy slugish engine and silly floaty level +boaring blue floaty aliens ...yawn, I thought I would install Far Cry again (haven't played it since release).
I also installed the extra 64 bit detail pack.

Now when I first played this I had a super duper X800 card and I could only really play it at 1280x 1024 without all the graphics maxed. This time round it runs great at 1920 x 1200 all at max and HDD enabled and I think it still looks fantastic.

I also think it is a far superior game to Crysis and is as hard as nails!

what a wondeful game!:D

Is still great. I don't even mind the first few levels of the monsters - were some great levels like the tree bridges and ruins, but it does get silly towards the end. I had to resort to god mode cheat.

I do love the game, but I gave up a recent retry as the AI grunts kept shooting the crap out of me through tents when they shouldn't have been able to see me. Just got very annoying :/

Yeah I found that a while back, its the badly-written 1.4 patch, meant to "improve" multiplayer but ruined single player! Goons... re-install and just patch it up to 1.3 level, no further. Plays fine, still love it for the AI and

"How'd you like THOSE apples?!" :p

I liked it at the time, but would not bother installing now. The 64 bit version was a little buggy and it does look very dated now. It's gathering dust on my shelf.

Agreed, the game is far better than Crysis and still looks superb ?

Dated gfx against HL2? I think not ! Foliage sucks in HL2.

lol@extreme close up on the corpse.

I like how some of the best areas of Half-Life 2 were ignored, City 17 looks miles better than anything in Far Cry for example.

Actually, that's the ugly bit imo :

( Yes I know it lacks a bit of AF and would be a bit nicer with a higher AA filter too, but still, the textures & buildings just look bad to me...)

Buildings just look bad in hl2: the watery area's, dark area's look better.

Half life engine looks crisp and efficient but ugly. Far cry has a much better style even if the textures may not be as high res etc.

installing far cry

edit: which one i need t o install :

Far Cry v1.40 Standalone Patch [123.7 MB]
Far Cry v1.40 Cumulative Patch [180.6 MB]

it says its only 32 bit patch would it work 64bit vista ?

I think HL2 looks better. Just my opinion. I remember the first time i saw the water when that train comes barging towards you. I was like Whoeooooo

Installing Farcry now. :D Brilliant game, but the AI is too sharp

Dont put the 1.4 patch on as it breaks transparency in game - meaning the Mercs can shoot you through tents etc, without being able to see you..... was meant to update multiplayer but it kinda broke single player.

Anyone tried the Delta Sector mod for Farcry?
It looks absolutely fantastic. Could be released as a game tomorrow and no-one would be saying it looks dated.
