Hubble Finds Unidentified Object in Space, Scientists Puzzled

That would be the a record breaker if any, size of that at around 11billion light years away. shocking.

if it could travel the speed of light, how long would it take to get to us?

wow that gave me a vague insight into your intelligence ;)

Was reading new scientist this week and they have a report on the hubble repairs about to take place. One fascinating fact was that they are going to replace the hubble camera which at the moment is about as good as a current mobile phone one!! 684000 pixels. Which was designed in the early 1990's.

They are putting in a nice 16Mpixel badboy! cant wait for the new photos :)

I suggest you go check said OP's created threads history. It will reveal the true intended nature of this thread :(

are you seriously that naive to believe that in the short few thousand years of existance of mankind

we have understood everything that the potentially infinite skies have to offer ?

The size of space is almost beyond comprehension, and you refuse to believe theres stuff out there we havent discovered or understood yet ?

Bet you would have been a right ray of sunshine when they discovered the atom.

No it didnt it just gave you an insight into how much I know about the subject. I know light years are measured in distance, but from a source other than our suns Im not so sure about.

That would be a pretty complex system that measures it on the year of a particular planet (randomly chosen?) of the star of origin of the light.

What you talkin' about willis? I never said I don't think alien life exists... I just don't think its playing a game of chicken with the hubble telescope for its own amusement. Plus Teki reads that and in his head the scientist who found it turned to a 5 star general that happened to be in the room, said something along the lines of "sir... its slowing down" then all red flashing lights went off and soldiers with m16s started frantically running around.

What? Light is light. It's light.

Light.

doesnt matter what the source is bud

It can be a star as well. If a star or other celestial body (sp?) emits light, its distance from the earth can be measured in light years, as a measure of how long the light it emits took to reach us

i was joking :p although the answer was glaringly obvious
