First PES 2009 Review

Just tried the FIFA demo. Not impressed. Not impressed at all. Was all so slow and the controls laggy. I didn't feel in control of my players at all. Really struggled. Played a few games but just wasn't my cup of tea. Looks like a definite year of PES :p

You sure you played Fifa09 and not Fifa05? :D

Couldn't agree more. FIFA can keep its fancy graphics, but it still lacks the most important elements that make up a good footy game: control, responsiveness and fun.

I don't like how you have to hold the through ball button for different powers, I'm so used to just tapping Y. I'm going to be doing loads of really short through balls for ages :p

I was really disappointed with PES2008, think I'll be getting FIFA this year as I fancy a change and would be nice to have the proper licensing.

I also didn't really like fifa 09 THAT much. Yea its pretty fun to begin with but i think i will still prefer PES. I think i'll wait and see what the PES demo is like before i decide on a purchase as at the moment im all up in the air!

I agree also, don't want to sound like a blatant PES fan boy but I cant understand why anyone would pick FIFA over PES in terms of gameplay. The demo was shocking and feels like the computer is taking over most of the controls plus it seems you can score ridiculously hard goals with ease.

With a proper champions league license now for pro evo, its a no brainer for me :)

For me, it's that Pro Evo has fallen so far from how great it once was that I just can't bear to play it in such a state. FIFA just happens to have gained enough to now be an acceptable substitute. The real question imo, is how can any long term Pro Evo fan class the recent efforts as anywhere close to acceptable?

For me the only real issues with 2008 were the stuttering the ps3 version had before the patch and the completely unacceptable online experience. Oh and how stupid defenders are by not marking men etc. Defenders in PES2008 have no brains at all. For the most part the game was ok, especially the wide variety of goals that could be scored.

If the online aspect isn't sorted out in this version then Konami are making a VERY bad mistake. If online PES was functioning well then it would be a very powerful title. They better not even consider releasing it with laggy poor online experience.

I know last year's effort wasn't great but I can't help but think some people are going completely over the top in their assessment of it. They messed up and now have the chance to fix it. If they don't, then they [Konami] deserve what they get.

It's a bit annoying to see people wishing this version of Pro Evo 2009 to be poor just to be able to justify their purchase of Fifa. There's also something tiring about people taking great pride in saying they've switched to Fifa instead...which is a bit sad.

Personally, I can't stand Fifa and as usual, will be relying on Pro Evolution to come good this time around.

I'm glad i'm not the only one whose noticed.

I tried the fifa demo and it just isn't for me. It has some great features, the presentation, the options, the graphics, the online works etc etc

Yet when you get down to the game the controls feel like an atari joystick is controlling them. With evo I always got the feeling I was playing a more realistic football match due to the percentage of shots you could score from outside the box. In fifa it's just too easy to score from 25 yards.

The responsiveness of the Fifa controls are frankly woeful. It's like playing evo with your feet.

That said they don't look like they have done enough with this years evo to make it a worthwhile purchase but I certainly won't be making do with another game. I'd rather not bother.

Regardless of how poor last years evo was online when it works or in local MP nothing comes close to the gameplay.
