how would my rig play crysis and warhead?

Oh, and Warhead is a standalone with a new multiplayer and supposedly more optimised than crysis.

Thats why I'm thinking warhead is gonna be better.

And no my rig isn't clocked, but will do to improve performance if need be :)

Hopefully a 1650x1080 res....may have to upgrade gfx card :D

Warhead is a standalone game.

Crysis runs not too badly if you are willing to sacrifice the AA and Screen Res. Te thing is not matter what your setup is or anyone elses they will experience the same probs as you more or less. From Tri SLi to Dual CPU skulltrail setups as even with literally thousands of punds of hardware it doesn't improve like other games do with that kind of money chucked at it.

The selling point of warhead is that it should be playable on modest setups. People are weary of this claim as that what was claimed for the first one. If this does prove correct then this will be more of how crysis first time should have been.

Crysis is a victim of it own hype and it own developers arrogance when it was initially released. Sure it looked great but no one could run it to how they would have like to have done and had to compromise via lowering the settings or sacrificing visual effects to get it semi playable. And even then it had farcy syndrome where most people played up to the point that the aliens started appear and then they lost interest. All it ended up as the hype died away and a lot of disgruntled gamers came to the conclusion that it's really more of a visual tour de force than a ground breaking game.

The funny thing is peeps mostly use it as a benchmark program more than anything even though I don't doubt there are plenty enough of peeps who do actually like the game rather than spend all time using it in game benching feature.

Hi

Crysis is uber memory hungry! The best thing I did was change my RAM timings from 4.4.4.4.12 to 4.3.3.3.12 this gave the best improvement, however I also overclocked my Q6600 from 2.4Ghz to 2.7Ghz.

At one point I was running a GTS 8800 (overclocked) with most of the settings in Crysis on very high in DirectX 10, it ran quite well!

I think you would be best running the game in DX9 on High graphics, it should run well on your system!

B.T.W Warhead is a stand alone game. Crytek have tweaked the game engine so it will run on Enthusiast (Very High) quality on lower spec machines than Crysis would.

Your graphics card will hold you back. Though I have not played Warhead it is supposed to perform better than Crysis itself, not sure how true that is. In Crysis at least you would be looking at pretty low settings at 1650x1080 and you would get 15-25 FPS.

Warhead is a standalone product.

I used to have the same card and amount of memory, but my cpu was a Dual core E6550. Try these settings if your playing the first crysis

Everything on high, shadows, post processing on med
1024x768
No AA

I used the Very high hacks on crysis, and managed some settings at very high, but in the later levels such as the snow levels and ship level, it struggled so i had to turn some stuff down. Another option is to try the CCC mod. http://www.crysis-online.com/forum/index.php/topic,29717.0.html
I wish this mod was out when i had my 7900gto!!.

Warhead is supposed to run better than the crysis, so you can probably run higher settings.

From the testing I did you are better off running at higher resolutions and lower settings. The game looks pitiful at 1024x768 even on very high, especially on 22" widescreen monitor!

yeah, it doesn't look the best at that res, but i was only on a 19" widescreen. 1280x1024 would be more like it. That would kill some of the jaggies off as well. I bet i've spent more time messing about with settings than i have playing the game!

thread hijack alert:

Can I expect it to run decently on a 3.3 Q6600, 4GB, 9600GT at 1680x1050?
Or on a 2.0 C2D, 2GB, 8600mGT (30% grfx oc) @ 1280x800?

I haven't even started the download yet - the steam servers where busy when I tried to set it off before heading to work :(

What does the slider do in the advanced section,i am running everything on enthusiast excsept motion blur which is on gamer,i dont like motion blur.

If you change any settings make sure you exit the game or you will get textire faults.

Really enjoying the game to be honest despite the fact i dont think they have done much optimising, the explosions are awesome and there is lots of action.

I think once the config files have been played with this game will look lots better, but then i suppose it would run just like the previous crysis.

The guns all seem more accurate and powerful expecially in power mode on your suit.

The vehicles are better to drive, and do more damage..

The water looks definately better, and the sunrise on the beach bar is spectacular.

Back to the game....

Not very well, the 7900GTO was a decent card back in the day but its getting a bit long in the tooth now (nearly two years old now). Personally I would clock your CPU to about 3.0GHz and sell the 7900 for something like a 4850 :)

That's not true, its just that the performance was so low to start with.

As an example, I've had various graphics solutions since Crysis came out.

V High DX10 1920x1200

8800 GTX: 12 fps

GTX 280: 21 fps

GTX 280 SLI : 37 fps

If that's not scaling well then what is?

I am not debating that it doesn't scale it just not a big increase as compared to other games. Like you I have played crysis with a 8800gtx, 8800 gtx sli, 280, 4870's, quad cores, dual cores, ddr 2, ddr 3 , small res monitors, large res monitors we could easily reel off list of our hardware and it all a moot point.

Yes the performance did increase when I went to sli so with regards to that you are right but seeming at the time I was under impression it would run on a gtx single maxxed then scaling was not there from that point of view.

BTW nice setup you have there. How are you enjoying the game? Been enjoying mp a lot myself hope to see you on there.

I've not played too much of Warhead yet, just finished the APC section with explosive ammo right near the start, it seems fun though :)

Getting the feeling it may not have the same 'epic' events that Crysis had but its good fun.

Not played the MP yet, haven't installed it actually, I'll do it now
