Carling Cup Spoilers 23 / 24

Didn't Rafael and Possebon come on against Newcastle? Evans against Villareal, and the majority start on the bench?

I just don't see how the "kids" demolished Boro..
Fabianski - 23

When?? Bendtner, Fab, Djourou and Ramsey (last 20 mins) yes. The others haven't played in the first team, and what do Arsenal have to do with anything?

Are you sure?

Hoyte - Not the one your thinking off ;) This is Gavin. Justin is at Boro now.
Ramsey - Well if you count 1 sub apps
Vela - Well if you count 2 sub apps
Wiltshire - One sub app...

Those are hardly first team regulars at the moment.

MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson launched a scathing attack on Emanuel Pogatetz after the Middlesbrough captain's nasty challenge on Rodrigo Possebon, who was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.

Pogatetz was instantly red-carded by referee Andre Marriner in Tuesday's Carling Cup tie for his second-half tackle on Possebon, the 19-year-old Brazilian who had been impressive up to that point.

The Red Devils went on to win 3-1, but Ferguson was still shaking his head with disbelief after the final whistle.

"The injury looked really bad and the lad has gone to hospital," said the United boss.

"The thing that gets me about challenges like that is that the opponent always claims he has done nothing wrong.

"He (Pogatetz) should have just walked off the field. Then you get their bench screaming that is wasn't a sending-off and there is nothing wrong with our player.

"At least Gareth Southgate was very good about it. He apologised and understood the mavity. It was an absolutely terrible tackle."

You were saying Arsenals team were kids, i've just pointed out some that have at somepoint, played in the first team.

Fabianski played against Derby last year, then against Everton and Sunderland.
Vela played against Newcastle, coming on in the 63rd minutes.
Wiltshire played against Blackburn, although only the last 5 minutes.

Hoyte - Not the one your thinking off ;) This is Gavin. Justin is at Boro now.
Fair point, my mistake.

To be fair, we've just seen two squads of relative youngsters outplay two very near full squad teams, and we're debating this...kinda missing the praise of two great perfomances.

Austria, 2 legs actually. Long time ago that, he's a changed man :D

nah he was on loan at moscow. he fled the country too after threats from russian maffia types

hes been on the bad side too though . like when he had his nose, jaw and cheek broken in one clash of heads, one of worst things ive seen happen on a football field that one!

The only result that mattered tonight, Swansea City 1 Cardiff City 0....

Oh yeah baby, just got back about 20 mins ago, great fun after the game with the police letting off gas outside the ground, and our own so called fans bricking our own busses.

Nothing like a south wales derby.

I think people are getting carried away.
Yes it was a poor tackle from Pogatetz, but he's been punished for it and he didn't mean to break the lads leg (if it's broken).

He was most likely trying to inspire something from his team with a crunching tackle, Keano did the same. People are getting carried away with it much like the Eduardo one. Injuries are an unfortunate part of the game.

they are part of the game, but tackles(i assume not seen this one yet) like that have a far far higher chance of injuring people, you see these tackles and everyone winces. Tackles like that have no place on the pitch and even if accidental, these are athletes the idea is to be in control of your movements. For instance if he slipped over rather than jump in, its an accident, but if he jumped in its reckless. I don't think we need to go massively overboard on punishment. Eduardo's tackle was incredibly high, very very reckless and flat out stupid.

Frankly I can't see why, Davies was it(?) wasn't red carded at the weekend, he did injure Clichy and it was a horrific tackle tbh, the absolute luck of the tackle was he didn't catch clichy flush on the front of his shin but caught the side and bounced off. however, if clichy's leg had been literally 2 inches further to the right(or left can't remember) then Davies would have caught him flush on the standing leg and almost certainly(considering his .... weight) have snapped his leg. Considering where it was, how he went in and how hard he went in when he was 1 in 10 chance of getting the ball, certain red.

Watched the full game last night and Arsenal were unreal, every player was fantastic and it was like watching the 1st team at times. Complete and utter control of the game for 90 minutes. Randall, Gibbs, Wilshere and Ramsey were all top class.

No break for the lad, after watching again i admit its a bit worse than i first thought but its certainly no horror tackle and is certainly not intended

I'm sure someone said there wouldn't be a break. ;) :p

Just as a comparison, when the guy I played with did this (had gash on same spot that was at least as bad, if not worse) it happened on the sunday and he played again on the wednesday. Of course I'm not suggesting Possebon will be fully fit in days (few weeks would be my guess), but as bad as it looked, with no break it's an almost nothing injury.
