F1 takes a step into the unknown this weekend, not only do we have a new track but we're going for a night on the town ;)

The timings are a bit different from the norm to allow for more night running, unusually qualifying is being run later in the day than the race itself. Should make things interesting.

Friday practice : 1200 - 1330 & 1430 - 1600
Saturday practice : 1200 - 1300
Saturday Qualifying : 1500 - 1600, ITV 1410 - 1630
Sunday Race : 1300 - 1500, ITV from 1200. Highlights, 2315 (ITV) & Monday 1800 (ITV4)

If you're interested in seeing what the tracks look like I've updated my Google Earth links and flyovers. Unfortunately it's still not perfect, although Fuji is now high res thanks to the April update but the imagery for Valencia is a fair age so the purpose built bridge isn't visible. To play the flyovers select the flyover folder and press the play button at the bottom of the Places pane.

Massa will crash, Hamilton will win, cue FIA giving Hamilton a penalty for splashing rain on Massa and making him crash.

Can we leave this back in the locked Spa thread where it belongs?

Hamilton got a penalty, he wasn't allowed to appeal it on a technicality. He'll deal with it, and his fans ought to do the same.

***edit***

Might as well post on-topic while I'm here....

I'm a bit dubious about this track. After the abject failure of Valencia to provide anything in the way of good racing, I'm concerned that this might go the same way if it stays dry even with it being held at night. If it's wet....hoo boy. Night-time, so it won't dry much, and temperatures will plummet making the tyre situation very dicey indeed. Especially for Ferrari, who seemingly struggle to retain heat rather more than McLaren.

We need a controversy-free race. But I fear we'll not only get that, but a boring one as well if the track proves to be another Valencia.

I hate to say it, but I fear this race will be as bloody boring as Valencia was.
Really hope im proven wrong though because on paper it has the potential to be a cracker.

Got a suspicion thats a very good call

Will Ferrari have as much trouble keeping the heat in their tyres (as obviously a night race will make temps all around cooler - althought being Singapore it could be humid) even if its dry?

Maybe. Depends which compounds Bridgestone take along, I guess.

Another closed circuit race with the possibility of rain = 1 thing, a 2 hour procession.

Aye, I'm of the same opinion that the night factor will be the only interesting thing about this race, the novelty of which will no doubt have worn off by the first round of pit stops. That said, I think Valencia will improve race on race as the drivers get to know the track and maybe the same will be true of Singapore.

Just arrived this morning and its quite sticky! Looking forward to the race and as already said, just hope its not another Valencia! Still experience should be good whatever :)

Sweet:

I really cant wait for this race, the circuit looks awesome, and the leap into the unknown might open this up for some odd results perhaps!

Well, I hope so anyway!

Does anyone have that Webber virtual lap thingy that was posted in another thread a while back?

My Aussie ticket was a single one for all three days

I never understood why the tickets are issued so late (considering the distance needed to travel to get to Aus/ Singapore)
