Who gets abuse for being anal?!

I would very much rather keep my Elephant record claim free especially not use it on a scratch!

Edit*

Just spoke to a local guy who I found a mobile number for, he says he has a method to get rid or at least blend in scratches like this and only charges £45. It's a 2 day process and he is local.

If I cannot blend this out manually using the above methods or any others people can recommend then I'll probably use his services and learn not to make £45 mistakes ever again :O

Doesn't look too bad. Maybe a touch up pen applied with a cocktail stick might suffice?

Unless you want it perfect, in which case either 'Dr. Colourchip' or apply paint with touch up kit, wetsand and then polish back.

I'm dissapointed. Where was all his abuse he obviously deserved for being so anal.

Surely there is a difference between a scratch and a small leather imprint which works out over time :p

I don't get the small print joke :( and the ruler has a corkscrew reverse side so all is well :D

I don't mind if it's not perfect, just invisible as best possible, it's how I touched up various stone chips on the bonnet but they were very small so not visible anyway unless you're washing/drying the car in which case you'd notice but this is a 1inch scratch showing the undercoat so it quite visible!

I will get a touchup pen from bmw tomorrow as I don't feel the Halfords one is of good enough quality to match and blend then post back my results after some wetsand/polishing :D

Edit*
Cheers!

You might most of that out with a rotary polisher at a low speed and a blob of g3 or scratchx if thats all you have. plenty of water spray to keep it cool and itit might just come out. I had a couple of small fine scratches on my red cupra and they buffed out really well.

i'd borrow foxes Touch up pen

then use a bit of T Cut or similar to try and level the paint surface a bit. Then use some SRP to hide it.

or use a rotary / porter cable if your feeling brave lol.

Depending on how bothered you are you can borrow my touchup pen at the Southampton meet, I've got the BMW Titanium Silver one :)

Ah excellent, if you can bring it to the meet that would be awesome  I don't know anyone with a rotary though so perhaps SRP will have to suffice.

I'll bring it with me, if its any good you can buy one from BMW if its rubbish youve saved yourself a tenner :p

I know the one from Halfords are turd. Previous owner tried to touch up a few on the 320i and failed.

Thanks very much \m/

The Halfords ones are ok for droplet sized stone chips but anything larger and nope! I tried on a slightly larger chip once and it wasn't that great so will try and find it again and redo that area :p

I’ve been reading a lot of sites today about DIY scratch repair, the most expensive being portacable so that’s a no go for a single scratch :p

The most suitable I have read is to use a touchup pen to fill in the scratch “canyon” with several layers of paint then polish it down using a light cutting polish (SRP or AG’s Paint Renovator @ £5) so it is flush with the panel surrounding then wax it. The results are apparently 65-95% better so whilst not invisible it would be very hard to tell which is what I’m after.

The process is pretty labour intensive but I’m ok with this.

Thanks Fox for the touch up pen offer on Saturday, I’ll buy a pen from BMW as I don’t want to use up all your paint as I’m sure I may well need it for light scratches or stone chips again in the future.

For £15 all in I’m going to give it a shot this weekend :)
