Hi,

Im looking to buy 1 or 2 kittens however i dont really know where to start. I live in east london so if anyone knows of any good pet shops in the area let me know. Also this will be my first cat so what are the costs like (i.e. food, vaccinations etc.)

Always get two.

Look on the internet for your local no-kill type shelter or maybe the local paper.

It's been so long since I had a cat that I can't help with costs!

Pet shops arent allowed to sell kittens, have a look in the local paper or the rescue centre. I have 2 cats and the vaccinations cost about £50 quid each, you are meant to have then topped up every year but i havent and my cats are fine. Mine get through about a tenners worth of food a week.

Why not try your local rehoming centrer before buying one from a paper ad. They always have lots of cats and kittens looking for a loving home.

If you get two and have to get them spayed, make sure you get them done on different days with a week or so in between. Otherwise they might fall out afterwards like ours did :(

Thought about a dog? :)

aw if you lived around middlesbrough area you could have had one of my sisters kittens.

they're 7 weeks old, and a bundel of fun.

however seen as you live around 300 miles away i guess you dont want to travel all the way up here for one of them.

All about Burmese cats. I have 2 and they are awesome, the most friendly pets I've ever owned! They do have an annoying tendancy to leave mice all over the house though...generally live mice as well!

From the sounds of it, the OP wants a moggy. Rescue shelter is the best place. I think all they ask for is a donation, so it wont cost you an arm and leg.

Of course, if you want a pedigree then expect to up the price substantially.

Also, I'm not sure why it is being recommended that you get 2. Can someone enlighten me on this one?

I have 2 cats, but I bought the first a month before the 2nd arrived. While the first was on his own, he seemed fine, though he did get bored/lonely when left alone. If however, someone were always in the house, then it wouldnt have been a problem. I bought 2 cats because I work full time and hence a single cat wouldve got lonely while I was out.

My feeling is that if cat is going to be brought up in a family home (kids and adults) then it wont miss other feline company, as it will hardly ever be left alone in the house.
