..Wipeout®HD Photo thread..

I stand by my statement that there is nothing in Wipeout HD that the 360 couldnt handle, but please, lets not turn this into yet another fanboy war.

They are both great consoles, and Wipeout HD is a gorgeaous game

I personally do believe that the PS3 is graphically better than the 360. Before starting an all out fanboy claim. I own both consoles. It's not a hands down win but a few things here and there. In resistance some of the cut scenes and some of the textures in MGS4. I do personally think it is that little bit better. But i dont want to start a war :)

I have to agree, this is what I expected games on the current gen to look like, sure textures aren't the greatest etc etc but the overall impact at 1080p and CONSTANT 60fps makes it stand head and shoulders above anything I've yet seen. And at last a game with no tearing :)

I love both consoles btw but this game is stunning. Let's also keep in mind that it costs £11.99.

A few really quick ones from Zone mode.

Again full 1080p ones can be found here.

It's a gorgeous game, but lets not get carried away, there is nothing happening there that the 360 couldn't handle. It has stunning visuals, but mainly because of the textures and artwork, from a technical standpoint it isn't any more impressive than anything seen before.

While i agree that the whole fanboy wars should be left aside, it can't be denied that nothing has reached visuals as good as this at 60fps in 1080p before, whether the 360 is capable of this or not is a moot point because i'm sure both consoles are capable of the same thing. It is just amazing that studio Liverpool have achieved this, imo no one else has matched this yet.

As far as i'm concerned, this is the new benchmark.

Do you think, being that none of the craft having any wheels left on them, is anything to do with this product coming out of Liverpool?

Just curious...

the 360 cannot handle it

Basically WipEout HD is the first game that seems to be operating with a dynamic framebuffer. Rather than introduce dropped frames, slow down or other unsavoury effects, the number of pixels being rendered drops and the PS3's horizontal hardware scaler is invoked to make up the difference.

The 360 cannot do dynamic framebuffer.

I've read that article, and it is a very clever tecnique. But it's exactly that, a tecnique, where's the evidence that the 360 can't do the same?

If it can't then yes, I take back what I've said. I see no reason why the 360 couldn't do it in 720p @ 60fps though.

The 360 could do this without a problem. People seem to forget the excellent scaler chip in the 360...

Enjoying every second of Wipeout HD! :D

I'd agree!

I personally think that some of the Sony development teams can produce results better then any 360 first party developer can, I'd put this down to the years of experience they've probably gained in PS1/PS2 and being on the front line of graphical techniques..

But people like to use these examples and claim 'proof' that one console is better then the other, but the reality is we will never really know, if developers are quite adamant that the consoles are extremely even in terms of hardware power, then clearly better looking games must largely be attributed to the developers expertise..

why are people getting into a debate about wether the 360 could do this or not? It's a nice looking game but i don't think it's anything the 360 couldn't handle tbh and I don't think it really matters either way unless your a fanboy!

It's nothing to do with fanboys, I have both consoles I have an interest in technology, I love them both and I'm curious to know which one has more grunt.

A more powerful console will never mean it will have superior games, that's down to developers creativity not graphics.

We will never know if thre 360 "can do this" or not, as the game will never appear on the 360, so we may as well leave this arument alone and get back to what this thread is meant to be about :).

What does PS1 and PS2 have to do with anything?

The PS3 architecture is completely different.
