64bit Vista better?

well vista 64bit is the being supported by almost every single application today, and it uses the whole 4 gigs of ram that you have, why not then?

just to make clear - 64bit isn't faster than 32bit, it will just be faster because it uses 4 gigs of ram in your case instead of 3/3.5 with a 32bit OS.

if you're going to buy another copy of vista just for that then don't, but if you do have the option, i'd go 64bit!

The only issues I've found are related to getting some videos to work, the codecs arent quite there yet compared to vista 32 bit.

It's faster for other reasons as well though. Quite a bit faster to be honest.

32 Bit codecs work just fine unless your strictly using a 64bit player that does not have the ability to use 32bit codecs as well, some do some don't.

Between Vista codec pack + 64bit extensions & WMP, MPC + VLC there is not a format that cant be played on vista 64.

if you want large RAM like 4GB or more then use Vista 64 -- I used 8GB just now any maybe I upgrade to max 16GB or upgrade new hardware with new AMD Socket AM3 in 2010.

I've stayed away from Vista for all my PCs except my laptop which came with Vista 32 Business and decided to move the main PC in my sig to Vista 64 as I was installing a new HDD and thought might as well, kept the old disk intact just in case I wanted out. For me the systems been rock steady apart from not being able to use my Soundblaster Live! Value card, had a play around with some drivers but no luck and a couple of blue screens for my efforts :)

I also had a blue screen when trying to relocate the Public folder but that was my fault for not understanding how the Public folder is configured and used as I just went in with a registry change which made Vista chuck a big one.

All in all even my kids have commented how smooth the PC now feels but I've no idea if that's due to the Vista visual effects of if it's down to the overall 64 bit engine under the hood.

My boss noticed a massive difference between 32bit and 64bit Vista Business. For whatever reason 32bit seemed really sluggish, he upgraded and was much snappier.

I myself went from 32bit XP straight to 64bit Vista and really like it.

I've got both Vista Business x86 and x64 on my work laptop, and with exactly the same things installed I'd say x64 is noticably faster. Can't use it though, because the legacy versions of the app I'm maintaining aren't x64 compatible :(
