Another one's going down according to the BBC. Should be an announcement Sun evening or Mon.

Sauce.

I wonder how many others are nearing this sort of position?

Sauce as in "Tomato"
It's a fad. I'm sure it'll grow old eventually. :)

May as well have gone pop. The mortgage business will probably end up with Northern Rock, and I can't see the branch network surviving in a recognisable form, particularly if Banco Santander get hold of them. :(

Hope not, Computershare are their registrars too >_<

We'll be out of business if our 3 other large clients fold too.

Went up into town today and noticed that MotorWorld was closed with a notice on the door. Was just reading it when one of the guys clearing out all the stuff inside came out and said that it had gone into receivership and around half of the stores country-wide are shutting. According to him MFI are also expected to go pretty soon too, though I don't know if there's anything to back that up.

// EDIT // http://www.motor-world.co.uk/ is down but I can't quickly find anything about it on any news sites.

Is B&B the last of the de-mutualised building societies to lose its independence? What an unmitigated disaster de-mutualisation has been for Britain. I hope that in future, the greed-mongers will remember this.

Oh, and apparently there has been a management buy out at MFI so things are safe for the moment... not sure it'll last very long though.

I was about to take this year's ISA out (yep, still not done it) with them a few weeks back but got lazy and didn't do it. Now to find someone else :(.

I have an ISA too. As long as its under 35K and as long as its getting the BOE interest rate (tax free) then cant see any reason to move it this year. The reason the government have stepped in is to protect the £20b in savings, if it didnt guarantee deposits then everyone would would withdraw cash in every bank in the country and then the whole country would really be in the poo.
