**OcUK Crysis 1680x1050 VERY HIGH Settings Top List**

New E8600 cpu, gains me nearly 10%.

:)

There was a thread back ages ago that showed quad cores not really using there potential in crysis. Looks like the extra core speed on the dual and the memory on the 4870 gave you a little boost. Why did you swap out the 4850 was a nice core at 850 over the 800 on the 4870 unless you run at a higher res than this bench.

I was just wondering what sort of FPS rating I should get with my (at long last!) finalised list of bits and pieces I'm going to be building my new machine from:

[email protected]
8Gb Black Dragon 800MHz RAM
Asus Rampage Formula motherboard
Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870 "Golden Sample" 512Mb graphics card

I'm getting an Antec 1200 case with a Noctua NH-U12P Cooler so hopefully won't have any problems with heat, am thinking that with the amount of fans in the 1200 it'll probably be colder than my fridge at the moment which is packing up :p :D

I saw a review somewhere for the Q9550 and it gave a big increase in FPS for Crysis compared to the Q6600 (both at stock) so I'm hoping to get over 40fps with Very High settings and 8xAA...is this a realistic target or am I hoping for too much with the [email protected]..?

And how do the FPS readings from the benchmarking thingummybob compare to the FPS whilst playing the game itself..?

What makes you think im using a 4870 now ?

Still Xfire 4850's here :)

New rig, new benchie & new score. :D

How come I can only get 23fps with a 4870X2 and xfired 4850s get 44? People have been telling me there's no point in anything more than a Core 2 Duo @ 3.2 but clearly that isn't the case. I feel like I wasted my money and should have done a complete new system :(

Don't get confused with runnig benchies and actual gaming. benchies like this should only be taken as giving a sort of ballpark figure for you to compare with other ppl to see if your pc is running correctly. Also a lot of these benchies give inflated scores when used with a quad core cpu as opposed to a dual core (I'm not sure if this benchie does but "06" certainly does). Also some benchies favour ATI cards and other Nvidia cards.)
And i can confirm "that for me anyway" its pointless to have a cpu over 3.2ghz in most games 'cos theres no increase in performance at all above that (I had a 8400 @ 3.825ghz and now I have an e6700 @ 3.2ghz and I get the same performance.
I'd be inclined to look at your catalyst settings meself, maybe you've got some options set to quality not performance, or AA enabled?:)

You're deffo losing some performance there mate, I've got a similar setup to you except only a single 4870 and get 24 fps. I'd have a look at your driver settings first and ensure as much as possible is set to "performance".:)

This statement is wrong for sli and crossfire setups imo the 4870x2 was still cpu limited with a q9550 at 4ghz in the hardewarecanucks review. Atleast 3 games were still being held back by the cpu speed according to the reviewer.

How is it wrong? I can only speak as I find and I spent a fair amount benching and was getting comparable results with a pair of 4870 in Xfire with a cpu clocked at 3.2ghz and the same cpu clocked at 3.825ghz. Well I suppose it was cpu limited if you call a 0.75fps difference between the overclocks.
I can only speak for myself here, others might have different opinions, but I found those results a bit surprising. I would suggest others who have a cpu around 3.8ghz to 4.0ghz to have a go and see how they get on, just leave all the settings the same, run the crysis benchy, downclock their cpu to around
3.2ghz and give it a go. Obviously this is only gonna apply to games that are gpu bound, games that are cpu bound are gonna suffer a bit obviously. Like I said, what really made a difference was overclocking the gpu core or enabling/disabling the second card in Xfire.
All I know is I'm getting the same framerates in crysis at 3.2ghz as I was at 3.825ghz. NOW, wether or not there is a threshold of some kind at the magic 4.0ghz I don't know, maybe someone could have a go, I'd be interested in seeing what the results are. Maybe its dependant on hardware/software installed in any particular pc, how its been optimised, I don't know, but really would like to see other pll's findings.
