I live in a three bed room house with my wife and two sons in their early twenties

Our food bill seems to have gone up and up recently

What budget do you work to
Any good ideas for making savings

On a seperate note how much are you paying for gas and electricity per quarter

There will be 2 types of replies:

1) "I spend £5 per week between 14 of us, we eat very healthily too"

2) "I spend £400 per week living alone, plus meals out every night, i am cool"

We usually spend ~£60-80 on a weekly shop, and then prolly about £20-30 of 'bits' as we need them through the week.

That's for the Wife, 2 kids, the cat and me :D

I don't shop with a budget in mind, and tend to spend about £40 - £50 per week.

That's just for me living by myself, and cost for me is fruit & veg as well as meat/chicken etc. Always seems to be boosted by various bits and pieces needed round the house though...

We spend very nearly exactly £50 a week for the 2 of us. That's eating very well uncluding lots of fruit and veg, free range/organic meat etc.

Edit; Every week we make a menu for the rest of the week, so when it comes to shopping, we only buy what we need and hardly ever have any waste. This probably saves a fair bit of money in the long run.

I would say we easily spend £500 per month although the majority of what I buy is organic which bumps the price up.

Since I moved in with Geoff and Rachel..about £40, on essentials (milk, bread etc) or quality free range butchers meat.

We grow all our own vegetables.

However, we did spend £480 on Beef recently, the chest freezer is completely full :p.

I probably spend £40-50 per week on food, which is much less than I was spending last year thankfully, mainly because I am now doing a placement so just take something simple and cheap with me to work for lunch.

I buy all my food from Waitrose, always get stick for it because I am a student :)

We (2 of us) spend £30-£60 a week depending if things like loo/kitchen roll, washing up powder etc needs to be bought. We sometimes don't go shopping every week if we have left overs from the week before. eg. a "weekly" shop might last from Sunday to the following Wednesday.

We don't stick to a budget or list. Just look for (worthwhile) offers. Keep in mind that saving 20p on something you weren't going to buy in the first place isn't a good deal.

Cheaper things or meals that can perish easily can be frozen and defrosted when needed.
