Audi A4 TDI 140 with/out remap

I'm "on about" the fact that a 30BHP or so remap will NOT knock way over 2 seconds off the Mondeo's 0-60 time (to bring it down to that of a stock Focus ST). Not to mention that the gearing will hinder it also.

Either you cannot drive, you got a godawful start, or he hasn't simply had "a remap".

probably me as a bad driver its hard to put my foot down going in a straight line. as for bad starts i drive a van for a living accelarating away from lights is my speciality upto the speed limit of course.

And we all know that 0-60 goes for nothing in real world terms. In gear accelartion is usued a hell of a lot more than 0-60 drags across the motorway.

I dislike diesels but there is no denying a lot of turbo'd diesels are quick.

I'm not denying this at all (and I like *some* diesels), just that an ST TDCi, remapped or not, will not leave a Focus ST.

I dont know if I dare venture into this thread with sensible advice, it might be lost in the torrent of junk in it so far. An ST TDCi quicker than a Focus ST, best I've heard all day.

i know what i seen with my own eyes i went up against the mondeo with my own st focus it beat my car so anything you say won't change the fact that it was quicker than my car what we need to do is all meet up at the proving ground and have some fun.

I have a bit of a comparision which really supprised me when myself and a guy at work used to play on the way home from work. I was driving our 06 A3 2.0TFSI Quattro and he had an 06 Focus 2.0TDCI Titanium, if we left the traffic lights together then the A3 just flew away and left him for dust but quite a lot of times we had traffic in front and if we were running at around 50mph and the traffic cleared then right up to 100mph he would sit behind me level or I would be behind him unable to gain. This happened loads of times and Im not saying in the case of this post the Mondy is quicker but in our case a 140bhp deisel kept up with my 200bhp A3 right across the 50-100mph range. Of course the A3 had 4wd losses and was a bit heavier but if you had said to me a focus deisel with 60 bhp less would keep up in those speed ranges I would have laughed before it happened.

Mondeo ST TDCI has a torque limiter in both first and second gear, I have one and it's really annoying, car seems to have no life unless you bang it up the gears quickly. So I can imagine the 0-60 is not really representative of the cars performance. I'm not saying it'd be loads quicker but I'd love a go in one that has been mapped and the restricter removed.

You don't get full power and torque in the ST TDCi until 4th gear - 3rd is restricted too. Most remaps don't totally remove the restrictions because the rapid torque rise will just spin the wheels up because first and second are quite short - in a mapped one you're swapping to 3rd after about 6.5 seconds.

I've compared my old one which ran 189BHP to my Octavia vRS and off the line the vRS will drive away, albeit slowly. From a rolling start about 40mph the ST will keep up until about 110mph then the Skoda drives away, top speed is about 20mph higher. I would have thought a Focus ST would be a bit faster still.
