Hi Guys,

wonder if you can help please?

i have just installed a HD4870 (replaced an 8800GT) and it auto detects Warhead at gamer levels.

But when I play there is a very, very slight pause whenever I turn around and its very annoying and makes aiming very hard in a firefight..

I have a core2 cpu at 3GHZ and the latest Catalyst drivers

any ideas?

cheers

Ferret

Turn Texture Streaming off.

Go to your warhead directory, go into the 'config' folder.

Create a new file called system.cfg

Open it and type in:

con_restricted = 0

r_TexturesStreaming = 0

Then save it.

Run the game and see if it still does it.

Its optimised for NV cards. Try running the DX9 mode as it defaults to DX10 under Vista unless you right click in the shortcut & select DX9.

My 4870 was the same with this game even on DX9 I still found it very slow in places so gave up in the end as the game looks worse than Crysis in many places all Crytek did was tweak the config and deceive PC gamers by saying they had optimised when they just changed the draw distance, used lower quality textures & renamed the gfx menu settings. This game only plays smooth on ATI cards if you use a custom config.

Should give you some starters on what to do. If you must have a high FPS on this game then SLI GTX260/280 seems to be the only answer right now but the game is seriously not worth it as it is really just 5 levels of Crysis with slightly different content and I mean slightly as 95% of the game reuses Crysis gfx.

cheers I'll try that tonight, oh by the way i'm on XP so its not running in DX10.

Also I'm not complaining about slow frame rates, its the slight pause i get every time i turn around

Oooo yes, I just assume everyone runs dx9 mode in crysis/warhead these days.

But still, turn off texture streaming, it makes the game look better and it stops texture pop/loading stutters.

its just the game it will run poo till next year

Mate, I dont understand you. You keep going around spreading lies about this game. I have pretty much same system as you, just I have a much better graphics card and it runs very smooth and I play at max settings. Just coz it dont run well for you, dont mean it wont for others.

Get a 4870 and see if it runs like poo. No need to wait till next year, it plays great now!

My cousin has the 4870 x2 and has a 30" Dell monitor and gets average 30 frames and it plays awesome on his rig too. So please just stop it. You cant expect the best looking game in the world to run on a graphics card that has been out for 2 years+
If you want the game to run smooth go play on medium or high and you will find it works fine. You want to play it on very high? go buy a 4870. But dont chat poo....

How much ram do you have ? I couldnt play with Texture detail on Gamer with 2GB as it was loading up for too much, 4GB cured that.

I have 4gb ram. you really do need 4gig for this game me thinks. btw, try directx 9 mode. It seems to use less ram. But dude, ram is so cheap these days and going foward, you really do need 4 gig :)

Similar to what the 2 guys above say i had same problems with 2gb ram adding another 1gb to make it 3gb total cured that exact problems mentioned above by the OP.
Now runs fine at 1680x1050
with settings as follows
sys_spec_GameEffects = 4
sys_spec_MotionBlur = 1
sys_spec_ObjectDetail = 3
sys_spec_Particles = 3
sys_spec_Physics = 3
sys_spec_PostProcessing = 4
sys_spec_Shading = 4
sys_spec_Shadows = 2
sys_spec_Sound = 4
sys_spec_Texture = 4
sys_spec_VolumetricEffects = 3
sys_spec_Water = 4

So if u had more ram it should fly on your 4870 compared to my aging gt

Psychas: I played through everything upto the carrier @ 1920 x 1200 with a custom config that to my eye looked every bit as good as Very High, on a single lesser 8800GT, and no framerate issues ever stopped me aiming. By poo do you just mean not Vsync'd @ 60fps? I always found my little 8800GT quite playable when it came to Crysis. Maybe you are expecting too much?

the 18 ~ 35 fps in not an option . specially if you play fast and aggressively running around with maximum speed in the base weres 15 or more koreans does not help your fps

edit: it is playable at 19" rez nothing above. if u not have top end gpu

this game hammers the vram usage hard from the looks of it. 512mb vram is probably whats causing the stutter. another 100mb or so of vram and game shoudl run great.

Nah, doubt it is VRAM, I run a mix of Gamer and Enthusiast settings @ 1680x1050 on my setup and I get no stutter at all.

The performance drop between Gamer and Enthusiast is not worth it as the difference in graphics is not massive.

Is Gamer and Enthusiast just like High and Very High in Crysis?
