Tell me about : Porsche

two of my colleagues are both into their classic porsches... one of them has had a 928, 944 N/A and then another 944 N/A iirc... all an absolute money pit, always something going wrong with them. his current 944 has just given up the ghost. be very cautious :)

Only £400 a year for me, that FC / Legal protection and hire car / DOC etc, its actually cheaper than my Passat to insure

Lucky you! i have zero NCB and just did a rough quote with admiral that came out at ~£2k iirc. lol...

Is this going to be an everyday car?
I had a 944 S2 for 18 months as my everyday car and sold it because I spent around £4k on it keeping it maintained mint.
My parents on the other hand have had the 944 cab for years and not spent that much, but only use it occoasionally in the summer. Oh and the 944 cab's do suffer from scuttle shake, it isn't nice.
Why have you not considered the 944 turbo? Engines are simpler than the S2 and easy to get big HP.
If I was to buy one again I'd get a 944 turbo with the M030 option.

Will do, its like any car just if this goes wrong due to the age its usually something major, provided you get an inspection done and have a read of the report (much like i did on the last one i looked at) then you have a good idea what sort of costs you're up against in the future.

Any car can be a money pit if you get a wrong un :)

Not sure at the moment if i find one i like and buy it will be used as a second car for a while, i like the sounds of the CAB but the backend looks kinda wrong so i'm not sure, was thinking about a turbo but with the age of the cars logic says i'm more likely to have issue with a Turbo than the NA, running costs could be an issue and thats what scared me off last time.

This was mine, absolutely fantastic car. Just cost me an absolute fortune.
As others have said, make sure it's got a full service history, and check for rust around the sills.

I used to have close to moon millage 944 S2, and to be honest it was a bit of disappointment. This is it:

Fundamentally I found the engine a bit dull. A 3 litre 4-pot which didn't sound that good, slightly lazy power delivery, and it never really cleaned up/polished up to something I was proud of (in white anyway). Also I never fully trusted my right foot in a RWD car so didn't get to exploit the chassis on the twisties.

I wished I'd stretched to the turbo really, and the 968 looks an altogether smarter car, with its variable valve timing pushing power out to 240hp.

Just my 2p :)

But they are the best car ever and the 50/50 weight distribution makes up for anything else.... doesn't it? :p:cool:

Jon's 944 is a turbo as well btw. Looks pretty sweet.

I always thought id like 944's but drove a 944 turbo a month back and it was terrible.

It was an early model, but it was a poor show for me

I went off them since, but the 928 manual and the 968 still tempt me.

my mate had a 944s2 for a while. didnt seem that quick considering, but that may have been his driving style (not my favourite). was looking pretty dated inside and this was about 6/7 years ago.

i loved 944's when i was a kid, but i think getting one now would disappoint. i think a 968 would be better a bet, although it doesnt have the cool pop up lights!:p
shame they didnt make a CS with a bit more power.:(

Its going to be interesting driving the S2 vs a Turbo and see what i think, a Turbo S is on PH at the moment, its got a shed load of kit few problems however, Colour of the Car / Dash / Seats, Now Dash and Seats i could perhaps sort out but i'm not 100% on the colour.

300Bhp however, tempting to have a look need to sort a business trip i feel....

The interior is part of the charm imo. It's totally German and you either embrace it or reject it.

In 5 years the styling will come back into "fashion", as all fashion is cyclical.

Too cheap for a good one mate and modded, personally I would steer clear as you 'might' be looking at some major bills with that one, though you may also be very lucky of course.
