Jump crowd 'disgust' police boss

Trained police negotiators spent three hours talking to Shaun Dykes

Bystanders who urged a teenager to jump to his death from a car park have been branded "ghoulish" by Derbyshire's Chief Constable Mick Creedon.
Shaun Dykes, 17, from Kilburn, fell to his death from the top of the Westfield Centre multi-storey in Derby on 27 September, as onlookers shouted "jump".
Mr Creedon said: "It disgusts me to think of their motivation and their lack of compassion."
The chief constable also defended his officers for not making any arrests.
Police had spent three hours trying to coax the teenager down. Some onlookers even used phones to film the event.

call me a wimp if you want, but having been where hes been at his age, I read this, read a couple of other storys about him, sat here and balled my eyes out for a few. :(

Just when i think i can no longer be shocked by my fellow human beings actions, they manage to surpass themselves.

Here was a young lad, the fact that he was gay is neither here nor there (confirmed in other reports) he was simply, a scared young lad, just lost what he percieved to be the love of his life, probably bullied although no mention of that yet, and basically the police No Swearing it up and some of the by standers turned into a shining example of how to be a truely sick individual.

I hope they die horrifically. Not Inflicted upon them, but at their end of days i hope they have enough missery about them to make them take stock of the life they have led and the things they have done.

r.i.p shaun.:(

What complete and utter idiots. It makes me incredibly angry to realise what ignorant ****s the public can be.

RIP

That really is totally screwed up :(

How can people be so nasty as to tell him to jump. I mean, Depressed, Gay so no doubt bullied as that's also the way of the world. Lost his love, So no doubt feels alone, and then everyone around him begins to essentially tell him he's worthless by telling him to jump.

Truly terrible :(

Not sure why you consider it's the fault of the police force if the lad did commit suicide, but the fact there were bystanders urging him to jump is sickening.

Sounds a little hypocritical ...

i never said i wanted it inflicted upon them, i just wish those individuals an uncomfortable end to their days.

not enough officers on scene, no one arrested, police cordon was in effective and still allowed the public access.

Good point, I'd only just noticed that in OP. You can hardly blame the police for what was something essentially beyond their control. I feel sorry for the officers that spent hours trying to console this depressed young man, only to have some ****wits screw it up by encouraging him to jump.

If the guy was an ethnic im pretty sure the people shouting to jump would've been arrested on the spot then classed as racists. Do i have proof of this ? no , but i damn well feel it would be that way.

Poor bloke :(

I do feel for them too, they spent 2 hours talking to the lad. but there has been criticism in several reports about the cordon and the way the public was handled,

what they did with and for the lad was exemplary, and i am sure they are quite effected by this.

I can just see it now, a Police Officer trys to sneak up and grab him and this whole forum would be on the Police Officers back if it went wrong.

its not the officers on the scene with the lad that im annoyed at, its the police controllers who didnt divert enough man power to the situation. I mean i dont know how these things work but presumably someone made an incorrect assesment of the scene.
