As you may know theres an edition of Gears of War 2 that will come with a lifesize Lancer rifle, in the US it is this:

(Edit: Removed competitor...)

Realistic imitation firearms are illegal in the UK, making this a £130 peice of junk.

Hard to tell the difference as there is just a box of the lower one, but is the USA one covered in "blood" and the UK get a "gold plated" one in an attempt at some sort of censorship?

Nah, its because realistic imitation firearms are illegal, so they just spraypainted the whole thing gold, it's lost all its detail and just looks naff now.

(The law says imitation guns are allowed if they are "substantially" different color to the real thing)

I wasn't planning on buying it but its still a shame.

It's the same reason that the Gcon gun is florescent orange in the UK but gun metal black in Japan; apparently a toy made to look like a fictitious weapon encourages people to eat babies.

Surely an air rifle or BB gun is an imitation gun, and they look real enough.

BB gun's aren't sold any more! - look at the BB shops online, they won't sell you unless you prove you have an airsoft license, or the gun is spraypainted a bright color.
Air rifles are excluded from the law afaik.

You'd have to be a real die-hard GoW fan to spend £130 on a game when it can be had for £45. Not my cuppa, would have considered it if it were £65.

Don't be a plank. It's so our over-zealous firearms police don't gun us down in the streets for having something so similar to a gun. If it's just a day-glo orange plastic thing they know to just bean bag us instead.

[EDIT] I fully understand the real reason for this law, but i fail to believe the police will gun anyone down for running around with an authentic Lancer, blood-stained chainsaw and all

i wouldn't put it past the trigger happy sods :(

Maybe i was being sarcastic

Dude they have gunned down unarmed men, people armed with chair legs and the wrong people altogether in the past.
