Hi,

Got a 4870 running the GPU Client of F@H and just wondering what is a safe temperature for it to be running at 24/7?

I want the PC as quiet as possible so set the fan speed to around 27% and this made the temp rise to ~93c so upped it again to 31% and this brought it down to around ~87. Now running at 34% (slightly audible) and temps are at ~82.

I understand that these cards can take high temps but is that just for a couple of hours at a time or is this 24/7?

personally I would not want it to run more than 70-80c 24/7

TBH if you are wanting to fold I would go for nvidia. ATI cards do not fold very well at all and you are just spending lots of money on power for not many PPD.

Yep, the F@H gpu client is still rather limited (for both Nvidia and Ati) If your running 24/7 then most people suggest a 8800GT 256MB or 8800GS 384MB.

Cheers guys.

I understand that the Nvidia cards are the best to fold with but I bought this card to mainly play games on, not to fold. Folding on the GFX card is just an extra bonus.

If I get into folding more then I would buy a 8800GT for the points ;)

Just really want to know what the max 24/7 temp I should be looking at is?

Cheers again, Doug.
