My new weight-loss diary. (Now with pics!)

No :p
Its hard, regardless of weight, for anyone when they have done no exercise in a while. After a couple of weeks everyone gets into it though. People just need to remember its intensity that matters, not the actual speed that you are going or weight you are lifting :D

Yes but you're just a big hard ass nutter mother******! ;)

Good luck DG - hopefully you'll be able to maintain your weight loss after you finish your diet and managed to keep a healthy regime up after you've reached your goals. :)

what happens after you come off the 500 cals a day do they just boost you back up slightly or what?

If its anything sensible, when you are nearing your target weight you would start to add more calories each day until you reach your target and the weight stops falling off.
You then find yourself at a perfect point, the kcals you are taking in are all being used effectively with no excess.

You can tailor your metabolism with a bit of will power and effort. Obviously his body is going to be in complete shock from the diet, but going back to a regular regime shouldn't be too difficult compared to the effort that he's putting in now.

When I've reached my target weight I then continue on a 12 week route-to-management programme where conventional food is introduced in a structured way, protein, 'good' carbs etc then the last few weeks are trigger foods to see how you cope, bread, cheese, chocolate etc.

It's very well thought out. The only experience I have of people putting loads of weight back on at the end of lighter life are those that don't bother with the RTM part. But then I think they are somewhat missing the point of the programme in the first place :p

Thought that would be the case :]

Ive done the atkins diet twice, and both times i put on more weight than i lost after coming off it.

I finally kept the weight off (2 years now), buy moderating my eating and exercise, Atkins is good for losing weight fast, but it is not a long term fix, i eat pretty much what i want now, and can do that due to exercising 6 times a week, but i enjoy it, and it dosent seem like a chore.

Not sweating as much means that your body isnt working as hard, meaning you are being as effective as you could be. Up the pace and get back into that zone :p

Depends what you are doing though. If I'm running in my aerobic heart rate zone (70-80% max HR) between 130 and 150 bpm then I'm not really breaking sweat unless it's very warm outside. That's where I'm burning fat.

If I push it up to anaerobic or redline then I'm sweating, but I do one run at each a week.

did you complete atkins, including the phase where you start re-adding carbs to reach your target weight, at which point you are eating a health diet?

This reminds me I need to lose some weight (well lose the fat and get the muscle back), I sort of decided to have a break from gym after Christmas and kept on eating like I'm still exercising. That was Christmas back in 2005 though.

I actually had a good run for just over a month where I was going to the gym 5 times a week and did some running on top of that with a good diet and lost a stone. I probably didn't gain any muscle but visually I looked a lot more "pumped up" as well and had more definition. However, I was doing that with friends who then had to drop out because of work and I just went back to the shape I'm in now.

Recently developed pain in my left knee which prevents me from doing anything harder than walking (and even that hurts), waiting for an MRI scan now. Still no excuse not to get back on a decent diet :p

Weird coincidence but i have started having a pain in my left knee and it hurts when i use them bike type machines at the gym. Tho it is ok if i turn the resistance down a few notches.

Remember chaps, if you suffer any pain when excersising stop.

Also, go see your doctor. You pay your NHS for a reason. And whatever anyone says, so far treatment for my shoulder has been amazing.

Ant

Fourth weigh in tonight!

I'm a little anxious about weigh in's now. I seem to have an expectation in my head to lose a certain amount, even though thats probably unhelpful.

Still, if I get 7lbs, I've lost 2st in a month :p

I'll let you know how I get on. Pics coming soon hopefully!

Yeah mine hurts if I just walk around for too long. Still started the diet today, going to the gym in an hour or so, I'll mostly stick to weights and go easy on the legs. For now only really looking to get into the routine of going to the gym and sticking to a diet.

Updated blog.

Another 5lb for last week, so 1st 12lb in a month - sooo close to 2st :p

Apparently I won't get my photos yet so I might just upload my own soon.

I posted on here that the Lighter Life Plan was rubbish because my wife did it etc etc.... and deservedly got a right pasting! I now find that she didn't do the RTM bit so we are not talking ATM!

The problem with Atkins type diets is that its not uncommon to lose up to 8lbs in the 1st fortnight but then it slows down to a crawl after that. During that 1st phase you are burning glycogen and the release of glycogen is accompanied by loss of water and thats where the 8lbs comes from.

Its all horses for courses and it depends on what kind of person you are. Personally, I find that a low GI diet suits and of course keeping away from all rubbish foods coupled with increased levels of exercise.

I cant not eat the food I love...Pizza, crisps, bread...

So all i do is go to the gym 4 times a week and work my arse off...Gradually getting there, getting slimmer, building muscle. Only been going a month and I can see the weights im lifting going up and up. Really wired going back to a lighter weight and being like "what, how did I ever struggle with this..."

But good on ya mate. Keep it up.
