Confessional thread - How fast this month....

About 85. Don't really like maintaining that sort of speed but I was in a bit of a rush (and on a private airfield ;) )

I managed to get my Reliant Robin up to 767 mph on the m25 recently. Managed to cause a sonic boom and everything.

You could see the other road users were quite impressed.

Out of interest, what kind of speed have people been pulled/ticketed/sentenced for? Is there an unwritten speed above which you will definitely get pulled? I mostly stick to 70 (-ish :) ) and have never been pulled over in 18 years of driving which I find pretty surprising.

I passed a policecar at 79 indicated on the motorway and he didn't flinch.... there was cars going even faster in the outside lane. I wasn't driving irresponsibly or dangerously, hence why the officer's discretion was helpful, in comparison to a GATSO which would nail me as a criminal baby killer.

I try to keep within 10% + 2mph of the speed limit as my indicated speed is out by quite a margin due to big wheels etc. So for me 80mph indicated = 75mph GPS

Yet none of you say you crashed or caused an accident. How can this be?

I do this all the time. Quite happily pootling along at 75-80mph with no traffic then suddenly I reach a wall of cars, al three lanes blocked. All traffic is doing about 55-60mph. I wonder why. Ahh, now I see, there's a police car in the inside lane doing 60mph and everyone is afraid to pass it.

When I get past them I usually accelerate to 80mph indicated and they never blink an eye. My speedo is pretty much bang on at those speeds too. It's funny watching the wall of traffic behind disappear in the rear view mirror whilst accelerating away into the empty motorway that lies ahead.

It's a pet hate of mine too. Everybody seems to think that Mr Policeman is going to arrest everybody in every car in the immediate vecinity, irrespective of speed, simply because they pass said police car

I just maintain my speed at around 80 when passing police cars, whilst pretty much every car around me appears to be coming to a standstill.

Idiots.

Depends on the roads, some police won't mind you bending the rules a bit on a motorway when it comes to speed. However if you drive like an utter arse, diving in and out of lanes etc, then they will book you :)

However it generally depends on the police, I'm sure some of them wouldn't even flinch if you were doign 90mph at 3am on an empty motorway, however most will take you to the cleaners with it :)

Being sensible is boring.
I went 130 down the a419, it was late at night and I love going fast, my brakes were pretty much on fire at the end, didn't think I was going to stop, if I didn't have big brakes I would have died probably, but that half the fun.
I've done faster though.

I did 70 mph round a country bend. In fact I think I stuck to 70mph down the whole road bends included and only slowed about 5mph on the small occasion. That's my take on economy driving.

on traffic cops couple weeks back the two coppers actually admitted they don't even glance at people doing 80ish. its the third laners doing 100+ which they look out for. just as they were saying this a 3rd laner jag doing 120ish iirc flew pass, guy was foreign, was very drunk and didn't even have insurance or something like that :D
