Guaranteed to run at ****ghz ???

They dont test them.

If it doesnt do 4GHz then they give you your money back, simple as that.

Not worth it IMO, most of the processors they offer like this overclock like crazy anyway.

You dont see them gurantying any Phenoms or Athlons do you?

I think it means that if you can't get it to run at that speed, then you can send it back and they will give you another.

I thought they they tested the CPU at the said speed and issued with a certificate..

Nope. No testing at all. When they started this farce there was a lot of condemnation from the forum due to the much higher premium back then. Someone from the shop came on and said there was no testing done. It was a rip off then and still is now in my opinion. They are just targeting people who don't know any better.

They are also doing it with the new Intel i7 range, IIRC a £60 premium on one of the bundles for the word gaurenteed.

I feel sorry for the people that fall for this.

I think that you are being a little unfair. Some people do get dud chips that don't clock well, and if you want to buy a chip that you can absolutely guarantee, without having to worry at all, to reach a certain speed, and have the money to pay that premium, then why not? I agree that some people who don't know better may be "fooled" into buying it when they may not need to, but if you are building a PC and planning on clocking it you should do a considerable amount of research anyway; if you don't, it is your fault!

The chips are not tested so the guarantee is worth nothing.

how i see is if u buy a 2.66ghz cpu for £129 and u wanna overclock it to 3.2ghz if that cpu can't clock that high (due to bad chip) you are stuck with it. u won't be able to send it back because it works at stock.

now with a OCUK Guaranteed cpu's if that cpu can't clock that high (due to bad chip or whatever) then ocuk will replace it or give you your money back. so basicly you haven't wasted your money..

Exactly-and like MKS has said, distance selling won't cover this as you will have used the chip already. Distance selling only covers sealed items.

but if theres nothing wrong with the cpu at stock u can't just send it back just because it doesn't clock to what u want it to....

but its like saying oh if i don't get to 4ghz from it i will keep sending it back. even though its fine at stock. also overclocking volds the warranty..

Sending a CPU back under the distance selling regs cos it needs more volts to get to a certain OC is ridiculous and it shouldn't be used for that. But that's not the issue here anyway.

If you bought something such as a GPU and did not like it, then you can send it back via distance selling regs, and this gauranteed to overclock is silly unless they are tested. As they are NOT gauranteed, they just get the same CPU from the same batch as the normal ones and ship it off, now I'd rather pay the normal price for the CPU as I've as much chance of getting that to clock to as high speeds as the ones gauranteed as the ones gauranteed are not.
