What is your dress code at work (office peeps)?

Smart but relaxed, ie don't have to wear a tie in the office.
My build when i started there was a few that didn't wear a tie, so i never, now i do, nobody seemed too bothed but you were expected to wear one in meetings and such.
Top button hasn't been done up for 2 years

Solicitor's firm here. Dress code monday-thursday is business suit, have dress down friday, but has to be smart (i.e. no ripped jeans or tatty trainers).

On another note, does anyone else think the tie is a very odd thing to wear? Its basically a bit of cotton/silk/wool hanging from your neck. It serves no practical purpose and I think nowadays a man in a business suit can look just as smart having an open-necked collar as wearing a tie. Plus ties are uncomfortable and get dirty too quickly. I say ban ties!

Where I work:

Studio (Creative, 3D artists, technical) - Wear what they want
Project Management - Mostly smart casual
Where I am, sales, commercial, accounts - smart casual, except I wear smart trousers and a shirt most days, if a client is coming in I wear a suit.

I just wear a shirt, trousers and shoes, but that's what I wear all the time as it's what I feel comfortable in. I could come in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt if I wanted to.

Business casual here.

So are we all in agreement that generally women are able to take the ****?

Do you want us to be?

Considering that it's only fairly recently that women are able to wear trousers and not just skirts (hardly practical in the winter, or in windy weather) I don't think that some guys having to wear a tie (bearing in mind it's not that common anymore) is such a drama.

But agreed I have seen some women wearing outfits that don't look particularly professional (low cut tops etc) in the office. That's an issue for HR to enforce, so if you don't like it complain to HR.

On placement (I was a software developer), it was smart casual, shirt and trousers with a tie preferably. Managers and sales usually wore suits though.

My office is generally casual, the older chaps, 50+ still tend to wear trousers and shirts, the younder guys wear smart casual. When we are in court, seeing customers then its suit and boot.
