Mobile Phone ring tone

If your phone/Blackberry/whatever does not just go "ring ring, ring ring" then you really have to consider who it is you're trying to impress because I sure as **** do not care which music you like, nor do I want to hear your phone repeat a barely recognisable sample from some film that you think everyone should know about (but not know too much about because then it's not cool or special).

I don't care if you call me a killjoy, I honestly don't. You are not your phone, your personality is not somehow made better by your ringtone and most adults will either set their potentially annoying phone to a very quiet ring or silent.

If you want to listen to music then buy a stereo or mp3 player. If you want to talk to people then buy a phone. The two do not mix unless you're aged exactly between 9 and 16.

Do you change the appearence of your computer, change the desktop background, do anything remotely with a PC that makes it a more personal experience?

That for me is all the phone is about, I have a ringtone that I can recognise that it's my phone going off that and I would hate it if everyone had the same namby pamby ringtones as I'd never know it was my phone.

There aren't that many people in this area who are clued up enough to know what FF7 is let alone recognise the jingle, so it's different enough for me to recognise my own ringtone without going "WOW LOOK HOW COOL I AM"

I don't normally use my phone for anything other than a phone, despite it having an MP3 player and a camera... but surely you can appreciate how having everything in one handheld device is a good thing.

No need to take your elitism out on everyone, good lord.

No, I don't get as wound up IRL as I did in my earlier post about mobiles but I really do see it as a way of people trying to somehow make up for their sub-par personalities through the in-your-face medium of phone ringtones. Chavs are a top example of this. Anyone on the Tube is another.

I suspect that your choice of ringtone is more about saying "this is who I am" to people who don't know you/care about you rather than "oh, my phone is ringing, I'd best answer it."

Anyway, I''ll leave you all to impress each other with your musical choic ... I mean your 'personal' ring tones :)

edit : I am aware that it can be beneficial to have an individual ringtone. I was talking about those who don't even consider this and treat their phone as a public service.

I get where your coming from on the whole *BLING BLING* "look at my phone" malarky, but seriously... this is OcUK and I'm pretty sure you're preaching to the wrong group of people here mate ;)

House of Pain - Jump Around. 99% of the time my phone is on silent vibrate but I have been caught out a couple of times. Once in a meeting and once when I was wandering around Tesco thinking that someone had made a nice choice playing that tune over the tannoy. :)

Totally... so someone sets their ring tone to a song they like... wow, like I'm going to let that ruin my day, furthermore lets analyse their psyche.... seriously, why?

Well no, it isn't, so you are wrong.

You always get the "I'M SO COOL I JUST WANT A PHONE FOR PHONE CALLS" posts in these kind of threads. You read any mobile thread over the last decade talking about ringtones and it's always the same. :D

Well I'm in that group... I don't use mine for music, I've got an Archos for that, I don't need a camera on it either... although I do use it when I'm ****** and I normally have boobs on it :D

Though sometimes I'm that ****** the pictures are that crap the next day I can't tell whether they're a womans boobs or a mans :(

NO SWEARING

Ok, so what is it saying to all those who to have to listen to it? I'm curious.

Thats the point! It doesn't have to say or mean anything, I think you're over analysing. It may just happen to be that particular persons all time favourite song, their favourite song of the moment, a way to idetify the caller without reaching for the phone etc. I dare say some people do fall under the category you mention, but to pigeon-hole all mobile users who change their ring tone to an MP3 is perhaps a little rash !

Who gives a **** what it 'means' to them.

Why are you so obsesssed with caring about what other people think?

tbh When I hear a 'Ring Ring' tone I usually think the person lacks the imagination to choose something other than a preset tone or its a business phone so MP3's are not allowed.

I change mine from time to time because I get bored of hearing the same tone.

It doesn't have to say anything like I said in my post.

It can be as simple as a song you like so you can recognise your phone.

If the person is one of those that perposely listens to the ringtone when it rings just to hear the song... then it's "look at that pillock"... but I'm sure for most people if they hear the first few chords or bars of a song they instantly recognise it's their phone ringing.

The victory fanfare for FFVII is like that for me, when I hear that... I either think "Wow someone just won a battle on Final Fantasy 7... good on them" when I'm in the pub or in a store somewhere... or I think "Oooh that's my phone, better answer it"

Now which one do you think I do when I hear that music?

A ring ring wouldn't make my phone stand out, it's not about me, it's the phone. If I heard ring ring I'd wait for someone else to answer the darned thing.
