* Terrans - Wings of Liberty
* Zerg - Heart of the Swarm
* Protoss - Legacy of the Void

soo have to buy 3 different games it looks, hope it not the sign of things to come with activision :(

Blizzard is promising that each game will have 26-30 missions, and each campaign will feel like its own epic story. They are also promising that they won't leave StarCraft lovers with cliffhangers. Each game will be a full product with a satisfying ending. We'll be hitting up Blizzard for more info as BlizzCon continues, so stay tuned.

I guess the premise behind this is that they want to get the game to market quicker without having to make all 3 campaigns first.

That's a rather shocking announcement. If it leads to the multiplayer element being out sooner then all well and good I guess, but they'd better take steps to make sure it doesn't mess up the community/online aspects (3 expansions = possibly 3 incompatible versions of the same game).

Hmm :/

Its an absolute ****take if you ask me!

Yeah ok essentially I can see what their doing but IF the actually do this then the 1st game should be retail and the other 2 should be severly discounted to say £9.99 tops becuase essentially they should all be included anyways!

Did you even read it or just go on a mindless rant? Each game will be the size of a normal game, they used to have around 10 parts to each campaign these will have 26 to 30. So you should be paying full price for each since its a full new game not an add on.

Mate I read the full thing, its a simple money making take on Blizzards part as they are probably struggling to make a decent release date on time so thought screw it we'll release the 3 campaigns seperately and in 3 packages.

Now my problem with the whole process is the fact all 3 wont come out at the same time. This could indeed split the community somewhat as people may want to play a certain sides campaign and not the other. My main fear is the split in the community however and the uptake on the first release could be less as people wait it out so to speak.

I can also see it being a struggle to get most people to part with their cash 3 times for what is the same multiplayer but an additional campaign.
If all 3 "parts" retail at the standard 29.99-39.99 bracket I cant see myself buying all 3 and I'm sure there a lot of others who won't either. You could be talking £100 for a "full" game.

1st release 29.99-39.99 and the 2nd and 3rd at 9.99-14.99 and it works. You get the campaign but the multiplayer is going to be same in every package, though they may go with the whole "new" maps thing.

The only worry I'd have about it from a community aspect is that you may end up with a majority of players favouring the Terran race (or whatever version comes out first) because they've got used to all the units and structures etc from playing the campaign. Which might see the other two races being somewhat under represented, at least by casual players.

If you listened to the panel he had said they had made it into a trilogy because they wanted to make the game as full as possible without pushing the whole game back by a long time, they could have gone with just 1 game but then there would have been a lot less content overall.

So to get as much content into the game as possible they split it in to 3 and are doing staggerd releases and each of the 3 games will be the size of a normal game so you will be getting a lot more missions per campaign so rather than about 10 missions there will be 30.

I am really happy with the trilogy idea, it means that you will have to pay more but ofcourse you will, you are buying a full game of each campaign rather than 1 game with 1/3 of the campaign size. You would be paying £100 for 3 games not 1.

If that's the only problem I wouldn't care overmuch. Casual players aren't where it's at with RTS anyhow ;)

The worry I'd have is a worsened version of the SC>BW 'debacle'. New units for Terran being released in the Zerg expansion for instance, meaning you couldn't have people with different versions of the game playing against each other.

Yes but in the first game that comes out you will have the full multiplayer, you are really only buying a new campaign and not a new multiplayer, its only a FULL package if you haven't bought the first game.

You obviously don't get where I'm coming from at all here, you get 1 campaign and the full multiplayer in the first release.....then you buy add on campaign 1, add on campaign 2.

Most RTS games come out with their sides of the battle. What Blizzard are doing is giving you the campaign fix over 3 packages......my worry is that it ends up being like every other RTS campaign out there being the same story from a different angle and I'm sure there will be some overlapping along the way on the Starcraft campaigns.

I just feel that if you buy the first game to add a campaign onto your package shouldn't cost the same as you already have the multiplayer part etc.

A way to sell this game IMO would be whatever game you buy has the full package, sound. Then you can buy the pure campaigns independently at a REDUCED PRICE as you don't NEED everything else.

Problems arise if they add units etc to the game and then that will cause incompatibility within versions and that's a bad thing.

never realy thought about the campaign always see rts single player as training for the multiplayer so i can see maybe terrans being overloaded

still keeping it on my must buy list i guess :)

I suppose to include around 80 missions in the one game (depending on how long they are) would mean they would loose rather a lot of cash than having them seperate. As long as they are proper full games and not expansions (either that or make them cheaper) then i dont see the problem.

In terms of retrospect i didn't mind what the Dawn of War series did and include them seperate as they lasted quite a while to play.

Hmm... hopefully they don't add new multiplayer units with each expansion otherwise it would fragment the community and **** me off.

I hope they do but include the maps/factions as a free download and keep the campaign as a part of the exansions.
