Following on from Gibbos thread i placed an order for some Vredestein Redstein Ultrac Sessanta's in 225/40R18 92Y XL.

The above tyres replace Eagle F1 GSD3's on the front of my car so the Vredestein's had quite a high standard to live up to performance wise.

Done 40miles on them this afternoon down some of Cheshires more interesting roads, i'm happy to confirm the same results Andy's had with the Mustang, understeer into and out of bends is much less, the tyres squeel less and it requires much higher corner speeds to make them squeel.

General front end grip has been improved, car doesn't shuffle around on the road as much and ride comfort seems the same as the F1's.

Very impressed, going to be interesting to see the wear rates vs the F1's, can't comment on wet weather performance at the moment but i'm expecting it to be good.

So if anyone is in the need for some new tyres i would deffanently recommend the Ultrac Sessanta's.

*Please excuse the tyre fitting paste still on the wheels!

they look cool too

super tyres those, my top choice

Interestingly I've read on pistonheads that they're not directional. Is this correct?

Just noticed that it's the back of one wheel and the front of the other?

First pic is Drivers Side rear of the tyre Second pic is Passengers Side front of the tyre :)

Haven't checked if they have a direction, but the arrows on the sidewalls point towards eachother

How much were they compared to the F1's then? They sound interesting, don't think they do them in my size though. Mine are due in a couple of months...

Sounds very good as per gibbos post. Where did you get them from, as I will no doubt needs some within the next few months thats for sure.

Local tyre place in Macc (Selecta Tyre) got them to match the Camskill price so £95 a corner and then they charged £10 fitting per tyre.

Not too bad imho and it means i got them right away so no messing around with postage etc.

F1 Asymmetric's are £99 a corner on Camskill and they would match that price also.

Odd that the tyre has those huge grooves but no where then for the water to go. I suppose water just fills the lareg volume.

Might try these on the Integra as winter approaches as it needs stiff sidewall tyres or it feels terrible.

Looking at the better images of the tread they are directional.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if they are directional, they don't appear to be fitted to his car properly. On one side, the thinner edge of the tread groove touches the road first if rolling forwards. On the other, it appears that the thicker edge touches the road first.

Hi there

Glad your finding them good too.

It seems they get better and better within the first 100 miles of driving before they are fully ready to be driven hard on.

For my car they represent awsome value as in 20" size they are half the price of all other tyres at £150 each. :)

Yes the design has given a few people headaches trying to figure out how it works as they are not directional and the grooves don't seem to channel water but in wet weather testing they are reported as one of the best if not the best so as odd as the design may look it clearly works and works well. :)

Looky

The “most open” tread must always be fitted on the inside

edit: Without even looking at the article I wouldn't have been in two minds over which way to fit it. Been nearly ten years since I left tyre fitting gig but surprised anybody has trouble deciding what way to fit them.

well that was the point i was trying to make but clearly didn't make it clearly enough. Obviously the tread looks as though it should be directional and has a leading line, however, I believe you cannot get them in left and right. There is only one tyre, not pairs.

Hi there

Just checked mine and they are fitted correctly!

Also another thing I have noticed with these is much improved braking performance. The old Pirelli tyres would trigger the ABS quite easily wheras these just grip far better and allow much harsher and quicker braking without triggering ABS.

Hi there

Correct just one tyre I believe as I asked the question when mine were installed if they were directional and they said no, just to make sure you fit them correctly which obviously means the inner line installed so its on the inner side.
