I disagree. They were very fun with some friends and what's more, the kind of game you could pick up and play in the space of five minutes. It would be wrong not to play them because they're not RA2.

Check out supreme ruler 2020 as well, it has a few minor bugs but the sheer depth of the game is impressive.

Civ4 is good, but if the guy is worried about playing a game for 4 hours then it might not be the game for him ... as you can easily blink and a day has passed without u realising on that game

another vote for company of heroes, i dont see any rts innovating the genre like that has any time soon

There is the total wars series, rome, medievil... etc

supreme commander is the best one I've played in a while.

company of heroes for the detail and realism, and sup com for the expansiveness and awesome ovoer arching strategy

it's just amassing watching a huge aerial transport drop coinciding with a amphibious assault coming off in a pincer movement
