I quite like the idea of having a theme with such a broad scope. Having everyone dress up the same (whores and pimps or something) probably shows less imagination

You could interpret it indirectly and come as a character from Sesame Street. Tonight's costume was brought to you by the letter 'r'.

Or...strip to underwear and paint yourself in the appropriate colour stripes to be a rainbow. That would attract attention.
