FARCRY 2 --- Officially , official of official threads! ---

such mixed reviews on here.

it comes down to getting it and making up your own mind i suppose.

mine still hasnt even been shipped.

I usually dont like FPS games, im quite bored of the genre, so it all came as a nice surprise, im feeling a bit sick today, so i havent played much, perhaps it will bore me like most games, but first impressions were great, first time ive had a wow moment when i turned on a game in as long as i can remember.

i haven't played it yet but i have ran the benchmark (dont want to start until i have plenty of time) and i dont think it it looks that nice tbh, stuff pops up everywhere when you get about 20ft from them but i dont know if thats just the benchmark to give falsely higher results.

if gameplay is as dull as its depicted so far from other players here i think its going up for sale. i never liked these "either do missions or as do as you please" type of games

I didn't think the voice acting was that bad, and I quite liked the taxi driver intro. I also haven't had any problems with the controls like others have said (logitech mouse) just bumped the sensitivity up in the options screen.

However it's main flaw is that it's just not very interesting so far. Scenery all very samey, guns a bit dull. I did like using the flamethrower on the grass and watching it spread though, that was cool!

on my 8800gt, at 1280x1024, this game really really flies

i'd prefer crysis to be less demanding and smoother like this..

Too be honest, your character should ditch his mercenary role and become 'Worlds Most Sought-After Mechanic' because he can fix a shafted engine in 10 seconds with nothing more than a socket wrench (you'll be doing this frequently).

I hope he's not a Kwik-fit fitter & gets Malaria ( you can't get better):D

Can't believe some of you are wavering about getting it because X says it's bad & Y says his mouse won't work & Z say's it's boring, lol, exactly like Crysis & everyone blamed the game when in fact its PC setup related most of the time.
How come some players have no problems whatsoever? it can't be the game if it runs perfectly well for lots of others can it?
Someone pointed out that Razer diamondback mouse won't work properly, mine does, smooth as it normally is so maybe mouse driver is borked?

I just done a mission where i had to kill a guy in the ceasfire zone, i find him taking a leak with nobody around and kill him quietly with the machete. Soon as i kill him everyone in the village knows 2 things:

1. Someones just been killed behind that there little hut.

2. We know exactly who did it despite there being a large amount of people in the village.

Also the random sentry posts shooting you up for no reason is quite annoying.

My opinion so far -

Good -

Great Graphics (Although maxing out @ 1920x1200 on my 4850 is a no go, a notch lower and all is fine, the optimal setting it selects really is best)
Great Sound Effects
Love how everything is kept first person and fluid
Gun fights are quite fun

Bad -

Voice acting seems........dull and muted and slack (Jackal seemed ok though)
Like people have said, you clear a checkpoint, 2 minutes later theyve all respawned, including barrels you blew up
No clear direction of what im doing, im just.........doing things
Mouse sensitivity on menus is ridiculously slow
No leaning ?

Thats all for now, heres some shots :)

This made me laugh, yep, a sign post for your safe house :)

I've played very little so far due to time restrictions - but from what I've seen it seems like it will be a very fun game; definately worth sinking a bit of time into.

The game isn't without it's niggling problems though; the combat, for instance, feels very shallow to me. Especially when comparing to Crysis. The lack of prone and switching between single and full-auto fire modes seems a bit odd to me. The combat, even on Hardcore/Infamous difficulty seems ridiculously easy too, I can't help but think the game was really designed for the console tards.

The graphics are also no where near Crysis' calibre either. Anyone who thinks the game looks better than Crysis is out of their mind. Some of the textures and lighting effects are gorgeous though, but the vegetation and trees could be nicer looking.

I'm also not sure why no matter how many times I get shot, and no matter how many times my engine gets trashed; I can pull hundreds of bullets out of my thighs yet still sprint, and my engine is repaired and fully working with little more than a few turns from a wrench. Tacky!

But yeah.. it's still a good game! It's fun - and ultimately that is what is most important. I've got a week off work next week so I'll be able to sink plenty of time into it. Woo!

Running it in DX10, 4xAA, 1920x1200, all settings maxed - is the HDR box greyed out for anyone else? I can enable Bloom, but not HDR.

Also, is there a prone button? Crouching is for newbs ;)

HDR seems to be on and can't be turned off when running in DX10 mode.

As for prone - there is none, very annoying. Stuck with crouching I'm afraid.

HDR is for DX9 only and there is no prone I'm afraid

Looking at most of the weapon models they really do look poor, they look so bland compared to other games these days - and that hand just doesn't seem right - can't put my finger on it but it just doesn't!
