Dual Core vs Quad Core

The only reason to choose one of the dual core Wolfdale processors is if you aren't so happy about the heat and power consumption of a quad core processor. The performance difference between a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and the Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale both running at stock levels is minimal, in terms of gamming performance anyway.

The Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale at stock is clocked higher than a stock Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 and it will also probably reach a higher clock speed when overclocked. However, is the performance difference between say a Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale running at 4GHz compared to a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 running at 3.6GHz justify enough of a difference to warrant losing an extra 2 cores? In my opinion, no it isn't.

Take a look at the graphs below. It really does show that the difference is minimal. :)

Why bother posting that someone should have used the search function  if it annoys you that much very simple to counter DON'T POST some people on here really do like being petty.

Why don't you mind your own business ? (Dopehead)

Multiple thread dupes are a severe PIA and your supposed to use SEARCH beforehand.

The same BS gets asked every damn day in here, I'm sure many peeps know what topics I mean.

I help anyone here and more so than many users but I get sick to the back teeth of dupes.

To be quite honest, if you (You meaning anyone) aren't happy with a particular thread, either report it and let the moderators decide weather that particular thread should stay or not / or just click the back button and be done with it. No one is forcing you to post in a thread that you don't like and by posting in it doesn’t help the situation since for a start it bumps it up and it also just causes arguments to the point where it completely ruins the thread.

If the forum was personally owned by you then I can understand that you don't like seeing the same topics posted over and over again and you would like your forum to be kept to a good standard. However, unless someone such as Spie was posting some of these things and was complaining about this, no one really has a leg to stand on since the forums are not owned by you.

Some people should try and use the search function and then none of this would come about. However, some people don't and that's not going to change any time soon so let's try and be grown up about the situation and just ignore that thread completely or as said above, report the thread. :)

Oh so because i have rizla in my name you automatically assume i am into drugs  very clever of you. Point i was making is if someone doesn't use the search function and makes a new thread it is pointless coming into that thread and saying use the search function. Obviously you can't see that and choose to enter threads that you supposedly hate so much. Also the op explained why he started the thread and it seemed valid to me and others have offered constructive comments so it must have seemed valid to them as well.

You shouldn't be m8 it's your money and you wanted to make sure you get the best you can for the system you want so don't be too bothered by any of the usual suspects complaining. This is a hardware forum that is here to help as much as it can people like you so carry on asking whatever questions you have :).

I will be doing my game benchies tonight for my Q6600 ready to compare tomorrow/over the weekend once i got my E8600 in and overclocked

I was so hoping Farcry 2 would bring some joy to Quadcore chips cos sure we did have supremecommander and few others but it wasnt always a proper "difference" showing quadcores true power...

Looked at the Farcry 2 CPU benchies here:

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,..._and_CPU_benchmarks/?article_id=663817&page=2

And am even more baffeled ? Looks like a E8400 £100 chip is competing with a QX9770@4ghz £1k chip ?

Or have I gone mad and insane ;)

Yeah i saw those figures as well and it had me puzzled but given some people that have both dual and quad and have played the game say that the quads do show a benefit to the dual i am prepared to put it down to some setup quirk.

geess im sorry for posting this:(

No need to be sorry, dude. Just don't do it again. ;)

Everybody was new here at some point, but for those who put a huge amount of effort into helping less-experienced individuals, it can get a bit irksome responding to the same questions repeatedly.

An interesting article for you to read would be this, showing all of no difference between dual/quad core implementations. Clock speed is still king.
