Old news im afraid mate, supposed to be fixed by today.

I for one have cancelled my BE contract, not for the last two days worth of problems but for the last 2-3 months us BE'ers have been having issues.

I have requested my MAC and im going back to my previous ISP ADSL24 don't understand why i left them in the irst place, best ISP yet!!

o2 are traffic shaping imo, as ping times and download suck, but newsgroups/giganews is perfect still, so 100% capping bandwidth and have been doing for a month now.

I would take an educated guess that damage network belongs to BT. From past experience of them having a damaged 600 pair cable in my old area, they took 3 weeks to fix it and had the cheek to bill me for £700 whilst mutiple engineers attempted to get me a working phone line.

On the flip side there is always your average Virgin Media evenings

And then half an hour later

EDIT: Sorry my mistake. First one is from a couple of days ago :o

The fibre belongs to Global Crossing, and apparently was fixed overnight.

Didn't notice any problems personally with my o2 connection, flawless as it has been since install a month or so ago.

From the facts I see in front of me, looks like it me me, mayb your just full of it ;)

Seems a lot of people on various forums agree with me.

A lot of people have the logic, period of slower downloads = traffic shaping. O2 and Be* both say that they don't traffic shape. Don't see why they would lie.

I'm not sure if it's traffic shaping or not yet.

My browsing and download speeds are awful lately, 100kb/s download, yet using SSL newsgroups I'm getting my full 1.1mb/s

So somehow SSL encryption gets around traffic shaping affecting normal browsing? That makes no sense. Could be true if you were using bittorrent and they were able to detect that, but otherwise how would they distinguish between normal browsing and downloads via newsgroup? Ok they could use ports, but why would they target normal browsing?

Remember that o2/be and other are having latency problems at the moment which would affect normal web browsing.

I'd be wary of anything an ISP says after having had to deal with Virgin Media. Thankfully o2/Be don't seem to share VM's passion for corporate dishonesty.

mine was bad all day yesterday (non peak + peak times). Woek up this morning and its spot on again. I'll have to see how it is tonight before making any judgements

TiZoR it is extremely likely I would know about any traffic shaping if it had been implemented considering the department I work for would be involved with it from the beginning.

I don't know about traffic shaping but for a while I've been having a problem with a lot of the file hosting sites Rapidshare, sendspace filefactory ect.

When downloading anything they will download for a second or two then they will pause for a anything upto 20 seconds before starting again for a second or two. This pattern will repeat for the entire download.

It's worse during peak times, a download that should take 5 mins will take an hour, during the day the pause go reduce to a second and and the downloading part last for 20 seconds and on a very good day it works correctly.

I've posted about this on a few forums and other seem to be getting it as well.

I'm not the only one seeing this either.

You can add to that Depositefiles won't work without the ssl trick and since the out yesterday Letibit now needs a static IP to work.

Clearly someone is trying to limit us somehow.

Have you actually read the thread? There are problems at the moment due to the fiber cut.

In regards to those sorts of sites, I've used them on and off (admittedly not prolifically) and not had any problems. Is it only recently you've had the issue?
