What do you guys prefer? start early end late afternoon, or start afternoon end evening? My jobs from around 12pm till around 8pm most days, i kinda like it because i can get good sleep during the night, but its also slightly sucks as i don't have much time to do things in the evening. So what do you guys prefer? whats the pros/cons of your shift?

start afternoon end evening

Hate getting up, imo the morning is for sleeping and not for working, find it completely stupid that I have to get up so early to go to school...
When I get a job, it won't be starting anywhere before 1pm...

Early start, leave early. Gives you more time in the evenings, and if you start late you'll end up sleeping through the extra time before work so it is wasted.

My girlfriend prefers an early which for her is 7-2:30pm. This way she gets all her afternoons and evenings to do as she pleases. If she works the later shift (2-10pm) then she feels all she's done is work as the free morning just flies by and she feels she doesn't get too much done.

Sleeping is not a waste of time, how can you even say that :eek:.
That's the whole point of starting in the afternoon, so you can sleep like a man and not be woken up like an animal by some stupid alarm or whatever.

Morning & Afternoon is boring anyways, nothing interesting happens until it's evening or night anyway, both outside and on tv and on the internet.

Early is way better. Have the rest of the evening to do things, but if you start late you usually just land up staying in bed and doing nothing.

I'd rather start work at 8 and finish at 4, even starting at 7 and finishing at 3 would be pretty good!

When I'm working 6am-2pm I wish I was working 2pm-10pm. When I'm working 2pm-10pm, I wish I was working 6am-2pm. My ideal shift would be something like 10am-6pm just because I could do pretty much anything in an evening and it not be affected by work.

I can see why a lot of people would think that 6am-2pm is a good shift because they might just look at is as: they get up go to work and finish at 5:30pm and think that you get up go to work and finish at 2pm but there's a lot more to it than that. It's not just a case of getting out of bed. It affects your evening too much. There is only so many days you can get by on 5 hours sleep and even then, sleeping 12am - 5am is not the same as sleeping 2am - 7am. And it's not just about going out and having a drink etc, even sitting at home with the girlfriend a film might start at 10pm and you think to yourself "hang on, I'm getting up in 7 hours as it is and I'm about to start watching a 2 hour film."

Yes you might finish work at 2pm but those few hours of 2-5pm you are swapping for 9pm-12am and which is the most fun really?

I'm pretty muchthe same - my 0600-1400 shift requires an alarm call of 0430 though

I'm okay once i'm up and about, but getting up at that time can be difficult - it's still the middle of the night as far as I'm concerned :p

Yup, i work 7-2pm, 2-10pm and 10pm-7am. I supose i prefer the earlies as i have the rest of the day toget things done. I dont think i could go back to a 9-5 job as then everything you need to do can generally only be done on the saturday.

In theory earlier the better, more free time in the afternoon/evening. However in practive i never seem to stop working in one way or another in waking hours.
