I have been thinking the last few days of getting a console but i am in no hurry, I got a gaming PC to do what i need meanwhile.
I wonder if there are any new consoles coming out any time soon? (say during 2009?), xbox 480(:p), sony PS4 etc...? if so i don't mind waiting.

Cheers ;)

Tbh we could use a graphics upgrade for consoles.

I guess its really just a problem for PC & console gamers because when you switch from PC to xbox for example the graphics seem s*** for a while :/

I've been having a look at this gen - the contracts for the PowerPC and Xenos were signed and made public approx. 2 years before the Xbox 360 launched. Spooky that we haven't heard anything yet about the technical workings of its successor. I hope they stick with the IBM/ATi combo and not ruin backward compatibility by switching to this Intel Larrabee 'thing'. It's no good saying 'keep your 360 to play your old games' as the damn thing will break down sooner rather than later. MS need to have a new machine that is more reliable, more quiet and fully BC to preserve the 360's excellent library.

The only new hardware thats on it's way is the new Nintendo DSI but that's a handheld, i wouldn't expect Microsoft to release any info until 2010 or Sony in 2011.

I think with the economic outlook as well as the large costs getting this generation going they will try and sit on this gen for a year or two longer than perhaps they had planned. Providing nobody makes decision to jump ahead and release new hardware of course, I think Sony and Microsoft will be happy to claw back more money on this release.

I've heard things, The Wii successor will be getting a slight boost. The PS4 will be taking a page out of the GC>Wii idea and not go mad on power again. And the 360 successor has been described as "Forward-Combatible" improving current games.

Oh course all rumors and not exactly concrete at the moment.

Well the DSi comes out early next year if that what you mean, like others i expect 2010-2012 for the big 3 main consoles to be released.

they haven't even fully uitilised this gen properly yet ( i am looking at you PS3 especially)
or have they?????

the PS3 not a chance, especially when you compare for example gran turismo prologue to uncharted, gran turismo looks better in every single respect, so i guess its just down to developers not being lazy and getting the most out of the console, don't think anyone has truely hit the 'sweetspot' with the PS3 yet, uncharted looks FAR to jaggy, gran turismo looks ever so slightly jaggy but its far superior. other games that look good on PS3, MGS4 looks great 90% of the time, but its let down by some poor textures and the fact the 'octocamo' is RUBBISH at mimicing the surroundings, wipeout HD looks brilliant but thats no surprise really, but on the other end of the spectum there are some terrible looking games, resistance looked pretty average TBH, timeshift again was very average (though had pretty decent gameplay) and motorstorm is great fun but IMO they could have spent more time on the textures.

killzone 2 looks like its gonna be a good looking game, but its hard to tell ATM

Do you mean Prologue thats too jaggy? I agree with that, Uncharted is one of the best looking games this gen imo. Resistance looks dull now I think the Motorstorm graphics still look awesome though. PS3 needs more titles like Uncharted and MGS imo.

I've heard rumours of a hi-def Wii coming along in the next year or so, but it was nothing concrete-can't even remember where I read it!
