1 year, 11 Months...

Is it just me or is there a higher than average number of 'my 360 is borked' threads over the last few days? I'm not suggesting some kind of conspiracy, but perhaps when all the big hitters start coming out for Christmas the boxes get a lot more use?

I have noticed this too, i got a message from a friend who got a RROD as soon as he bought fable 2, he hadn't played his 360 for a while. My theory is because the days are getting colder the temperature change between off and under load will be far greater which will put more stress on the components due to expansion and contraction.

Very lucky. If it breaks after 3 years and 1 month it would have been bad luck

I think next year you will see that won't be the case. I highly doubt they will not continue to fix red light errors. After all come the new year anyone with a launch day console will be out of the 3 year warranty.

That should be an interesting time for MS and I reckon a lot will depend on whether you have had to have it repaired previously. I'd say if it's been back a few times under warranty you will have good grounds to kick up a fuss.

Even those that haven't broken will be able to state they bought a product that went to market with an fault.

I bought a faulty 360 cheap last week, fixed it, but now want it to RROD again :p

It's not as easy as you think!

ive never had a RROD!

... have i just tempted fate?!

Yes !, I'll be looking forward to your "my 360 haz jus deaded :(" thread within the week :p.

On a serious note though I think if you guys really love the 360 as much as many of you seem to then surely considering how cheap the arcade pack is now it's worth getting a spare for when you have the RROD, this may sound like a sarcastic post but I'm being serious, I'm sure you could find a use for the second console as well other than it just being a backup, maybe use it as a dedicated media extender etc, then at least you want have a break from gaming when you have to send it away for repair.

lol wtf how do you guys break them so much am still on my original from 2 year ago

Hey, it's not us it's Microsoft. We're looking forward to your 'My 360 broke' thread by the way.

Any still-working consoles from launch and around that time period are abnormalities.

My friend got the red lights and pulled it apart reapplied some heatsink paste put it back together and was working again. I will ask him what he did when he gets back from the states.

My launch console went after about this amount of time the first time round, and this time of year as well.

I'm wondering if it's a combination of age, and getting more use (after the summer + hot release period) that seems to get so many at this time of the year.

unlucky to be honest, i got mine the same time as me mate, played it more and left it running longer hes on his thrid one now, its all luck realy i think its becoming al alfa romeo

AFAIK, the newer 175W Falcon's ,which the 60Gb models are, have a much better thermal design etc, and it's very rare for the RROD to happen.. however, that aside, DVD failures are the next chink in the armour..

Nope, they still use the pathetic torsion clamp design so still suffer just as badly from PCB flex during heat cycling breaking solder joints.

Haha.

Maybe when moving between the outside world on a snowy day and the inside of an oven, but not for normal use :D:D

By fix, do you mean heat gun/oven (not just overheating the 360) combined with X-Clamp replacement?

I fixed it by replacing the X-Clamp. The extra pressure was enough to do it, didn't need overheating.

However, now I want it to break again (have reverted back to the original fittings) but it's not having it - yet :D
