Fable 2

rp2000, sorry for not accepting your coop join request last night, I was just testing out the 360 for a bit as I have set up the 2nd one in the bedroom, I had been messing around for 30 mins trying to get the sound working, and when I did I only had about 15 mins to play :(

No worries, just saw your icon appear near me in town and I finally felt brave enough to try the co-op (a lot of people complaining about glitches etc so did not want to mess up my game).

I am 100% pure now, 100% good wearing some naff Will User suit, married, and got a halo over my head. Now I am getting a bit bored, bought a lot of stuff.

Now the maps and loading times and other minor faults this game has are starting to show up :(. Might continue the main quest now.

I've just restarted, not finished my last play through, but now i've got to grips with everything I felt a restart would make it miles better, infact what i'd like to do is get some serious Stat building in early on, which is doable considering enemies seem to change depending on how strong you are. Which is great.

Have put in some good hours with this now and really enjoying it overall.

I think they should gag Molyneaux before any new future release. While his mumblings haven't been as bad as Fable, some of the stuff he sees as ground-breaking is just not.

Good points:

Visuals: Mostly lovely looking, especially the Spire.

Humour: Some of the NPC's are pure gold and the books also contain a lot of lol moments. The Demon Doors and Gargoyles are brilliant. My fav's are the guards who try to talk posh.

Morals: There have been one or two occasions where I genuinely had to do a bit of soul searching and felt quite bad about a couple of things in the Spire. Its rare for a game to create these kind of emotions.

Character: Even in MMO's, NPC's can be pretty limited and characterless. Fable 2 has some of the most endearing and funny NPC's I've come across in a game. Great voice acting obviously helps here. I love Hammer, great character.

Simplicity: While I prefer to do more work for my money, its quite nice to have new quests and jobs appear in your log when they become doable as opposed to searching them all out.

Combat: Simple, great looking.

Bad:

Morals: There are far to few of these choices that sculpt your character. Often the choices have no middle ground. Its either you're a right ******* or Mother Theresa. You also seem to gain good, bad, evil etc for the strangest things. As it is its an over-hyped feature with a few notable exceptions.

Combat: Simple, repetitive. Time Stop + Force Push = fight over. I could try other combinations but I would only be doing it because I felt I should. Needs more depth like mobs being resistant to certain attacks etc to mix things up. The Commandant fight for example was trivial when it should have been much tougher.

Relationships: Looked good on the surface but its a weak feature. Repeating the same poses over and over again to gain favour is not fun. Its also redunant once you have gained enough fame as most everyone you talk to likes you anyway. I also can't understand why, even when you highlight a particular character, everyone around you gets effected by all of the options. Fun for a short time but its no more than novel.

Getting married and having a family is ok but ultimately pretty souless as the process of getting there is not fun. Lacking in detail again as well as once you've gone through the short process required to get married there's not a lot to keep you going back.

The Dog: Over-hyped feature ahoy. I really don't get all of the fuss with the dog. Mine has become a chore and I often forget about it. It just has no character and doesn't make me want to care about it. They should have included it more in some of the big moments in the game. Maybe during a key cut-scene or two the dog could have saved your life or played some other part? As it is at the moment its an annoyance that follows me around contributing little to the game.

Jobs: The jobs are like grinding in an MMO, especially at high levels. Watching a white dot moving along a bar hundreds of times to progress is rubbish. Same with the pub games. Fun for a short time but they don't stand up to the length of play required to max them out.

Overall though I have had about 15hrs of play from it and still can't wait to play it again. Its got that certain something that keeps me coming back.

In fairness, you are not really aware of the bad points till a good 10 hours into the game, then the repetitive nature of the game kicks in, and you have time to notice more of the flaws.

I keep playing the game, regardless of the flaws, It reminds me of an Third Person Black and White, but sadly contains some of it's biggest flaws, at the same time.

I hate the fact you cant "abandon" a quest, i started this evil sacrifice quest but when i read what i had to do, i didnt want to do it. Now i cant sleep anywhere because i have an active quest.

So i had to kill like 50 people to gain 2k points. But thats not enough, they now want me to do a very personal sacrifice at 12midnight to finish it off. I guess i have to kill a wife/child.

So, i now HAVE to get married then kill her just because i cant abandon a quest.

This is not the style i wanted to play, i wanted to be good the first time round, now im as evil as i can get with a face full of scars. I look like a dead pirate from pirates of the caribbean :o

I also STILL haven't made any offline money. When im logged in i make 840 every 5minutes. When i log in i have gained NOTHING.

Must be bugged for you. I don't think you need any special requirement (other than an income) for it to work. You only get a max of 50mins when offline I believe.

So i should be up at least 8k when i log in then, ill just check now !

EDIT - Nope, haven't gained a penny as usual.

Do you have a house of you own, or do you rent them all out?

The few houses I have are rented. Then when i log off its making money then when I login 5mins later I get a tasty bonus. It should come with your first "income" payment.

I've bought up the Inn and most of the shops in Bowerstone Market and some taverns and shops in other areas. When I log in I get a lump sum from those for the time I've been logged off.

I dont understand why i dont get anything  Everything i have is rented, i haven't kept any for myself. I thought that might be why.

So basically 10 times your normal income (income is every 5 mins) no matter how long you logged out? Makes sense as I spent all my gold yesterday, went to sleep for 10 hours, loaded this morning and had about 20K which is 10 times my 1900 ish per tick.

Sounds like easier way to earn is just leave your 360 on, unpaused, whilst doing other stuff. No 50 min limit.

Glitch in your gamesave maybe? I have about 20 houses rented and 2 pubs plus some stores, I make about 1900ish every 5 mins.

Do you only have houses so far? Maybe you need to buy a business to kick things into action.

Saying that though, I rented out my wagon right at the start and was getting 7 gold a tick for that.

I have a pub, few stalls and some houses. Get over 900 every 5minutes.

Hmmm

Do you have a secondary ID?

If not it might be worth creating one so that you don't lose your current saved game and start a new game on the new ID. Sell your wagon at the start and quit. Then log back in after a time and see if this new game has accumulated any cash.

Do you mean XBL account? I have one ID but its not paid for.

If i logged in as my brothers, and saved a new game, would it not overwrite mine?

If it works like other games you should be able to use another ID which shouldn't effect your ID's saved game.

Might be an idea to check the official site first though.

What do you mean "Even in MMO's"? MMO's have a right to have more limited NPC's tbh, you can't expect every NPC to have some story to tell or something to do, in World of Warcraft for example the game has thousands and thousands of NPC's scattered around.

It'd be far less time consuming to add more relative NPC's into a single player game with a smaller world.

I wasn't knocking NPC's in MMO's. My experience is that I normally find the most interesting NPC's in MMO's and so my comment was based on that.

I see, but still I think it's more often you'd find useless NPC's in MMO's because of how big they are, gotta be lazy somewhere. :D
