Was thinking last night about how people are influenced by their parents, so my question is a simple one.

What do/did your parent do and what do you do?
Have they effected you in anyway with career choice?

My Dad is (or rather was) a programmer, although I dislike programming he did introduce me to computers at a young age which has deffinately shaped who I am and what I want to do.

My Mum was a receptionist at a doctors surgery and now a medical secretary. Shes taught me that doing the same job for many years is neither fun nor rewarding and I guess has shown me not what I want to do and given me a sence of ambition.

Yeah I guess so, we're all one big happy family though!

I just thought it was interesting how people are influenced by things.

both my parents were lecturers, my mum in business/computing and my dad in engineering. my brother is at uni doing engineering now and im doing history so it definitely affected him more

My dad works for a company in Cannock that deal in scrap metal, they're part of a german company that are supposedly one of the biggest in the world. He works as a trader and the works manager, involves going out on the road and trading with other companies as well as being generally in charge of their 2 yards in Cannock and 2 others up in Humberside.

My mum doesn't work.. but sadly she has a few problems...

Dad was in the marines - which has brought quite a fair bit of discipline into my life as it never really left him and has also helped me with my choice in joining the Forces.

Done quite a fair bit of odd jobs and ups and downs over the years but has recently landed himself a lectures postion, teaching mechanics, head of department and doing great. I think jobs wise my dad has infulenced me a lot as no matter how much trouble he got into with money he always kept going and never stopped working, has great work ethics and I like to think has rubbed off on me.

Mum has mostly always been a nursery nurse. Infact a lot of my family is in teaching.

Dad used to erect electricity pylons, nowadays he puts up steel framework for buildings. My mum has always been a housewife.

My dad a director in a pharmaceutical company with a scientific background, 12 more exams and I will be a doctor.
Has it influenced me? Yes I went to medical school when I am actually probably more suited to business or finance.

Meh at personal comments.. its not like you have to post in the thread.

Mum was some kind of admin for years, even though shes a graduate, she decided to quit her job and get a teaching cert(teaches secondary school kids) a few years ago and loves her career change, its also much better paid etc.

Dads some kind of gas/elec tech at local council, hes the one in charge of it or something.

Neither influenced any of us with line of work, Sister dropped out of college and joined navy as a writer.
Brother decided radio tech wasnt for him at uni, dropped out after 1semester and join navy and is finishing training as a tif, working on nuclear sub engines etc.
Iv finished uni with a degree in digital entertainment(crap&worthless) after always being interested in computers, i join the navy in 3 weeks as an aircraft engineering tech.

My Mum died during childbirth and (strangely) the two guys who were competing for her affections at the time got custody of me. One was an artist and kinda wild and spontaneous and the other worked in an office and was more sensible and dull, they were the opposite of each other! It sure made for some great lols :)
