xbox controller on a PC

Wrong advice? Its not wrong advice, a lot of others have had problems with the wireless receiver. Do a google search and just read the amount of threads people post on forums about how poor it is.

vastly outweighed by the amount of people who havent had problems. to call it junk is far too far fetched.

Couldnt find one anyway, I will go down to the nottingam tomorrow and pick one up. It wont be the wireless one tho as its for the kids and they have a habit of breaking things, so the cheaper the better.

I know it is effectively monopolising PC controllers but I am impressed with the way games on the PC are preset to work with the controller seamlessly. I really hated having to assign loads and loads of combinations to a controller and messages in game saying "Press button 26" whereas the games have it like Press A in green which makes it far better.

This is one main reason why I see no point in owning a Xbox and a decent PC simultaneously.

I have the wireless controller and reciever on my pc and have used it with no problems from day 1. This is on XP and Vista 64. Personally I think it's a great controller, and it's nice not to be tied down. Just my opinion if it's worth anything!

I've got a wireless 360 pad with the Crossfire adapter - worked perfectly from day 1, and is great for stuff like GRID and the LEGO games :)

Just need to buy a 2nd wireless controller now so I can play LEGO Batman with the GF ;)

Is there any new Mortal Kombat type games coming for the PC? it's the only reason I'd buy a 2nd wireless 360 pad for that kind of game :D

Never had a single issue with my wireless 360 pad. Or Aekeron's 2 wireless 360 pads. They've always worked flawlessly for myself, and if the pads had a dualshock style D-pad, they'd be the ultimate controller :)

I have used wireless 360 controller + the receiver but sometimes, very often it will just disconnect, the pad will switch itself off even though it is fully charged, this is driving me crazy, the only way to prevent the controller switching off is to use the usb charger that i bough ages ago to charge my controllers, so i have it constanlty on charge.

Any idea why this is happening to me?

Fallout 3 and Dead Space are brilliant with the 360 pad.

MS do make quality hardware. The 360 pad is almost flawless. Although it makes my left hand ache after several hours.

I've owned a few PC pads over the years. Before the 360 pad, the only one I had that was half-decent was the original Sidewinder, again by MS. PC pads have normally been junk.

Usually its a lose connection caused by removing the battery piece too often. Just reseat it and it goes away.

Have you heard of this thing called an xbox 360? :D Microsoft are a software company.

Yeah I guess what I really meant to say is MS do make quality PC peripherals.

The 360 itself is just OK, given the amount of failures it has.

And I'm including the 360 controller in "PC hardware" since it works natively with Windows. Heck, device manager will fetch and install the software for you if you ask it to.

I agree with you for the most part - PC gamepads are generally awful (the sidewinder I had was OK I guess) and I usually resort to console pads + converters.
