I had a Heart Attack last Sunday, didn't realise at the time and not being what i regard as "that old" put it down to indigestion. 5 hours of fairly intense pain before wife lost it and phoned ambulance.

Blood test later with positive for heart damge :(, angiogram followed by angipplasty surgery after blocked artery. Told on operation table " a warning shot - 2nd chance of life". Fixed by drug eluding stent, out of hospital next day.

No1 reason - Smoking, i smoke 20 odd a day, roll ups. Consider myself to be fittish if a little overweight but then only 39.

Not had a cig for 7 days and will never have another again. Certainly something like that brings things into perspective and a family that could have been without their Dad.

Am recovering, Doctor just signed me off for 3 weeks. Cardio Rehab to follow.

Jesus mate close call!! I bet that was a pretty rude awakening wake up call!!!

Still, if it has done the job to stop you smoking then it's worked. (All be it at the risk of your health, but you smoked anyway...so :))

Good luck on keeping clean and living healthy! Treat that heart of yours to some excercise and good living for a change :)

Glad your alrite though man.

Least you want to stop now as well :)

Just remember clogged arteries aren't always due to smoking, but still, the smoking probably never helped matters.

Hope you recover well.

It's a shame that sometimes it has to come to this stage before people get the motivation. :( Good one on changing your opinion though and I hope the progress continues.

Have you tried quitting before? If so, how hard was it and is it now in comparison?

all the best for a speedy recovery, as said shame it takes something like this to make people quit, but i guess it takes a lot of people this motivation to get healthy :(

Best wishes for a safe recovery.

Good luck with the stopping too. It's not easy, but it will help that you have had that "shock", and have a reason to stop.

Put the money you would have spent on tobacco and papers to one side and treat yourself and the wife to a nice holiday next year when you are fully recovered.

Did you have critical illness cover on your mortgage?

If so, feet up and easy street from now on eh. Oh yeah...the heart attack, I knew there was a downside.

Cheers for the info but no, I won't stop because you are unwell.

GWS, good decision about the ciggies.

dude, was going to try stopping again tomorrow. this may help, thank you!
Best of luck recovering mate! glad you are still here

Mate said that to me last week, couldn't understand why tomorrow? Good luck on quitting as well though.

Get well soon mate, hope some smokers take your advice and follow suit (with the quitting, not having a heart attack..)
