10 worst goalkeepers in England's top division

Jim Leighton?

Legend big Jim was, he got dropped after a howler in the semi final and Les Sealey took his place

He was crap in that game aye but every keeper has a couple of shockers

Jim "Bandy Legs" Leighton is indeed a legend although actually a very capable keeper and a passable scarecrow impersonator. Maybe he simply wasn't cut out for the English league but he wasn't a bad keeper by any stretch.

If there was a sub category called "Inexplicably quite good at club level but conspicuously rubbish at international level", David James would be number one easily. He would also top the "Goalkeeper Least Likely To Save A penalty" sub category.

Hasn't he already saved 2 this season from 4 and saved about 6 last season?

Definitely wouldn't have Paul Jones on that list (especially considering it's not restricted to just Premiership years), he was a fantastic shot stopper who caught my eye way back in the FA Cup when he was a Stockport.

The only problem with Jonah was that he would switch off at times, and was prone to being caught out by long shots. But his instinctive, reaction saves were top notch.

Nah he ended up playing for some Serie B nonsense

Fiorentina wasn't it? Think he had a few good seasons.

EDIT: No that was Manninger, Taibi went to Reggina then Atalanta, Torino and Ascoli. I think he was alright for Atalanta

To be fair to Gomes, he's obviously injured at the moment. He's got a rib injury severe enough to require injections before every match. Why aren't Spurs playing their reserve goalkeeper instead? Because he's absolute rubbish, that's why. Gomes is easy to pick on because he's got such an extreme set of qualities - incredible reactions, incredible jumping ability, an incredible throw but terrible decision making and terrible kicking. He's the kind of goalkeeper who'll be invincible one game and then let in an absolute howler the next. That's still a step up from Paul Robinson though. :)

But still, Spurs have managed to find the one Brazilian who can't kick a football. :o

i agree
cant belive Gomes has made the list and people seem to have forgotten about Robinson

i think Gomes has the potential to be a top keeper just going through a bad patch and might need some coaching to help his decision making

he has stopped spurs losing 5-0 in some games and his blunders have only led to 2 goals so far

Very deceptive title as its stated in the present tense when most of those named are long gone

Robinson may not be brilliant but he isnt as bad as Tiabi or Gomes

Barthez was amazing one game and completely shocking the next (a bit like Robinson)

Márton Fülöp, Sunderland's current keeper is pretty abysmal, some of the goals conceded at the weekend were horrific.

Srnicek was a decent keeper, there's no way he should be in that list.

:S

Srnicek (sp?) was terrible, he used his feet more than his hands and conceded more goals than I can remember due to stupid "tricks" and attempting to dribble.

His blunders have led to WAY more than that. He was responsible for conceding 2 in a game the other week let alone all season!

you really dont like me or spurs do you :(

apart from Aston Villa or Udinese i cant think of any other blunders he is responsible for

sometimes you concede goals but cant blame the keeper for all of them maybe he could have done a bit better in some situations but i still think he has the potential to be a top keeper

he has fast reflexes and is acrobatic only needs stop punching everything and knocking out his own defenders

I don't think he's got the potential to be a top keeper, I'm afraid. As good as David James? Yes. As good as Cech, Frediel or Given? No. His athletic ability is unquestionable. Watching him warming up is amazing - he's literally getting his head and shoulders above the crossbar as he jumps. However, his kicking ability is just too poor to be reliable.

Well, to be honest I don't know why Ricardo is there. He hardly played for Man U and he is now playing for Osasuna and doing a decent job of it.

Spurs second keeper is Cesar from previously Zaragoza and Madrid. Not a bad keeper, more experience than Gomes for sure!

Is Ricardo that keeper that put england out of the last Euro/World cup with a penalty?

That still makes me rage..

Anyhow I don't think David James is very good personally
