Hi guys,

This is a bit of a "to the interwebz!1" thread but I'm pretty annoyed and need to vent.

My dad just rang me to say my brother has been robbed at knife point by two 16/17 year old scouse chavs. They stopped him on the way home from college, pulled the knife and said give us all your stuff or we'll stab you, so they managed to get a way with his phone, wallet and a one-day-old ipod touch. He said they were all in his bag so he wasn't "asking" to get jumped. They'd just failed at robbing another guy walking home too. He managed to run off.

The annoying thing is it was on our own road. We live in a newly built suburban area so it's one of the last places you expect to get robbed, especially 20 yards from your own house. My dad is pretty ****ed off.

There isn't much I can do because I'm at Uni and I doubt the police will be able to do much either. They've been pretty good though. There's a few cars searching the area but I doubt they'll find anything. I really don't understand why someone would want to pull a knife and rob someone.

I hope they put the phone and iPod on eBay so we can catch the little ****s.

Definition of Scum to be honest.

Hope your brother wasn't too mentally damaged anyway, or hurt physically.

Sadly they probably won't catch them, unless they try it on someone else, and they happen to describe them better or something.

But seeing as they are 16/17, they'll just get a slap on the wrist and put in juvi or something.

Because they have just gained a phone, wallet and a one-day-old ipod touch for 30 seconds work, pretty good returns. They know that they are very unlikely to get caught, if they are caught even less likely to be convicted and if they are convicted, will get most likely a £50 fine that they pay back at £2 per week from their job seekers allowance.

Say they pull 5 of these jobs a day and each person has property on them that they could sell on for about £100 worth, that's £500 a day net profit, untaxed, on top of their JSA. That is a lot of drugs to be bought.

for pulling a knife its going to be a little more than £50 isnt it..

Theyv gained a phone which no doubt will be IMEI barred soon, ipod touch - dont they have some kind of identifier which itunes tracks?

Sorry to hear that, OP. On the plus side, he wasn't stabbed, so it could have gone a LOT worse, however it sucks when scum steal your stuff.

Hopefully this would be covered under your parents' (or his own) house contents insurance under personal belongings? I had stuff nicked from my glove box, it would have been a nightmare to claim on my car insurance so I claimed it on the house contents instead.

Obviously that doesn't make up for being robbed, but still, worth looking into. I made out like a bandit because my insurance company was incompetent. I actually made a profit on the whole thing, although it wasn't worth the hassle of having my window smashed in and spending weeks sorting it all out.

Hope they catch the ******** that did it.

I really hate scum like this that think it's perfectly acceptable to take other people's hard earned stuff. Hope your brother's ok mate and not too shaken over the ordeal.

Your brother did the right thing handing them over. From what I hear about gangs in Liverpool they wouldn't have hesitated in stabbing if he didn't comply with their wishes. Let's just hope the police catch them and they are given appropriate (5 year+) sentences.

Not sure if you can contact Apple with the serial number.

If someone ever buys something on iTunes or something, perhaps the serial number gets listed as stolen.

my mate got robbed at knife point some 10 years ago

and for about 6 months would not leave the house without company
it messed him up abit

sorry to hear about your bro and his stuff
but it is only stuff at the end of the day should be thankfull hes not dead tbh....

Happened to me in Leeds, New Years Day 2001. Had my kids with me at the time when I was mugged at knife point.

The police were awesome - invited me to spend a couple of days in one of their unmarked cars, driving round some bad estates to identify the guy. That was an experience and a half and gave a huge amount of respect for what the police have to put up with. In the end they found the guy and hewas put way for 4 years.

At the time I didn't think it affected me all that much - I was just grateful me and my family weren't hurt, but looking back now I think it did affect my self confidence for a while.

Still, what doesnt kill you makes you stronger :)
