Hi guys - Does anybody know the power figures of the Mercedes E Class Diesels?

What was the power on:

E220 CDi

E270 CDi

E320 CDi...?

Thanks

IIRC the 320 engine changed a few years ago from straight 6 to V6
The straight 6 only had 200BHP (one of our company pool cars), the V6 has 220BHP.

Yup. They wont drive like a 5 Series obviously but they are a good prestigious wafty executive saloon. Reliability isn't amazing but it's hardly shocking.

at what point did MB actually start making good cars and then pricing them up though ? as opposed to making a car to a budget that was a complete money pit

They went through a period of being terrible reliability and quality wise, i think the comment was whether this age car falls into that era, and i think it does.

Thanks. It's never really been brought up that much in OcUK motors so wanted to know what is thought about them.

In a way I was asking this, but mainly, as a car in its own right. There may well seem to be a flip side to it.

I like them. I prefer the 5 Series to the lower models but the E55 AMG is really tempting as a newer E39 M5 alternative at current prices..

i dont think the w211 has terrible reliability and quality, quite the opposite to be honest.

The quality of the w211 E's is as good as it gets. Reliability wise, there are a few niggles here and there having lots of electrics but on the whole the engines are fairly solid.

Generally cars upto about 03/04 were a bit hit and miss with quality issues and rust issues.

Anything after 004 are generally better made, and introduction of 3.0 V6 Diesel in 05 gave the range better engines.

E280 is a 3.0V6 TD 190bhp - Nice smooth engine, and the E320CDI same engine with 224bhp 0-60 in 6.8s very fast saloon!

Ahh yes, for my needs (needs? maybe more like wants and urges) AMG solutions fit the bill perfectly, more so than BMW M. (Current ones anyway...lets forget about the C32)

The only danger with the AMG models is as they become more affordable people buy them and then get absolutely owned by the horrific running costs.

You buy an £18k AMG Merc if you've got £25k to spend on a car not £18k :p

No, it's not. It's not bad, not bad at all, but it certainly isnt as good as it gets.

But with cars like this the engines are not really your worry, its the myriad of auxillery components.

1. As good as it gets in terms of a benz.

2. thats why i said, there can be some problems with the electrics.
