Hmm, I'm glad he's president but I have a bad feeling him being announced the 'winner' is going to up the level of hate for him in America, hope the next 2 months aren't his last.

The President's job is to lead the country. McCain couldn't even lead his own party, he was lead by it, and thus he doesn't deserve to be President. Then, of course, there's Sarah Palin (who probably wasn't his choice either).
Agreed - I thought the Conservatives didnt have their house in order - the Republicans are worse. Basing the majority of their campaign on the man (and obtuse woman  ) they were backing rather than tangible policies is appalling in this day and age, especially with the easy access with have to media and information.

As I said before though:

Good Luck Obama - I would not like to have your job - I hope history is kind to you...

I notice how the presenters haven't mentioned the "B" word (black) yet. Let's face facts, the guy's only won because of his skin colour! If it were a white guy with the exact same policies then the election would still be going.

There's no guarantees of course, but I suspect there's enough of a majority to put that situation to bed. Who knows though.

As for the BBC coverage, I think the studio coverage has been OK save Simon Schama who was certainly partisan. Some of the reporters have been shocking - particularly the one who obviously had a very blinkered view of what he was supposed to be reporting on.

True but would you really want to see McCain as president and palin(lol) as vice?

No, but I'd rather someone be elected to preside over "The Policeman of the World" on their actual policies and not because he's of a dusky appearance!

See, notice how the BBC are only now wheeling at the people of colour to comment! Tracy Chapman at the moment, and the first question to her was "How do you feel about an African-American (see black) guy as president"! I thought his ethnicity didn't matter.

????

BBC, Fox and CNN have used the black word all night, interchangeably with african american.

But I suspect his colour has had an AWFUL lot to do with it. In fact, I think it's largely Bush's legacy and Obama's colour that won it. Polices anyone?

Agreed, probably the worst case of 'positive discrimination' Ive ever seen - Obamas got a massive task ahead of him - stabilise the American economy and deliver on his promises (even though he has caveat them because of the economy) while under the microscopic scrutiny of everyone thinking 'Was it solely because you was black?'

Its a sad hurdle, but no doubt a fact...
