Hi all,

So im trying to overclock my Q6600 with my IP35 Pro. I was first recommended the following settings:

333mhz FSB
x9 Multiplier
RAM: 4,4,4,12
Dram Ratio (Whatever its called): 1:1

This seems to work fine however the RAM is quite underclocked.

Today I was recommended the following:

400mhz FSB
x8 Multiplier
RAM: 5,5,5,15
Dram Ratio : 1:1

This makes the RAM back to stock (DDR 800 Speed) but will not post :-(

So ive gone back to the 333mhz settings but changed the ratio of RAM to 1:1:25 i think so the ram is at 839mhz speed. It seems ok at the moment but I want to make sure I get it right.

Where should I go from here and whats the best program for testing stability on a Quad Core CPU?

Cheers!

Alex

What ram is it? On my pro and with my corsair, the mobo defaulted to 1.8v (or maybe 1.9v) which was fine for the ram to boot at 333 fsb but for 400 fsb it needed 2.1v which was excatly the stated voltage for my ram.

It is OCZ Ram (PC2-6400), ive already upped it to 2.1 Voltage as that was recommended on the OCZ Site, any other ideas?

Im just about to update the BIOS to latest version :-)

Okay. Bios 14's and 16 were the best bios's for overlcocking the q6600 so no need for a new bios.

It would be helpful to know your voltage settings please?

And is it two or four sticks of ram? If 4 you may need to increase your nb voltage at 400Mhz.

I increased the MCH voltage by two notches so to speak and set the DDR voltage reference to 2% I think it was called.

Thanks for your replies guys, so far ive upgraded the bios to Rev 16. But still hitting a brick wall.

I can safely boot with 333fsb, 9x multi and the Dram set to 833 or whatever it is.

If I try 400fsb, 8x multi it gets to vista loading then crashes out.

Ive increased the mch voltage a little and the ddr voltage reference still no luck :s.

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

Alex

I'd try running memtest on the ram to be honest, have you disabled all the features like EIST, speedstep etc? Have you tried setting the ram timings to SPD? i.e. Auto?

I use the latest Prime 95, does all 4 cores within the one program for stress testing.

Cheers Vader, I havent tried a memtest yet - ill give it a go to make sure my RAM is not faulty. Also no I didnt disable EIST or speedstep, could this be affecting it?

Tried ram timings on SPD but not with the overclock i think

In the section that has all the EIST etc. I have disabled all of those personally, give that a try, although might not have an effect. Worth a go though :)

Ok so ive disabled all those in the section where the EIST is, it didnt make a difference to the 400fsb overclock sadly. I am retrying the 333fsb overclock with the dram ratio slightly different, i think 799 or 801 speed. I will prime95 it and see if it is stable and guess go from there??

Not sure what to do about RAM timings, left them on SPD for now.

Cheers!

well time for bed now i think! :p

I ran a brief Prime95 with no issues, what temps are hot for a quad core cpu? I was getting about 50c max.

Also how long shall i run Prime95 for, couple of hours?

Cheers

Alex

Cheers, ill run it over night tonight then and see if its stable :-) can you think of any problems with me having the memory run at 799/801 speed? think the board changed the 333fsb to 334 automatically for some reason, must have been better for the ram.

Also I am slightly confused about PC2-6400 ram, I thought it should run at 800mhz but Cpuz seems to report 400mhz?

Cheers

Alex

Thanks, ive had a quick read of your thread. Seems the P5Q is a good board. I'll prime95 my current overclock to see how stable it is and post back.

Also probably will re-enable speedstep as disabling it made no difference.
