Parking Ticket......Victory?! *Update*

Hey guys unfortunately I got a parking ticket the other night :( booo!
Anyways It was a carpark usually run by the council and since it was after 6pm (8pm when I parked) i thought its cool to use it! Unfortunately this space had been taken over by the NCP which I never noticed!

Anyways I have a parking ticket, I went to try and pay it online today and the number and registration combo would not work, I was! So I decided I would give the number on the back of the ticket a ring and try that way incase the details hadnt been uploaded yet, so I type in the ticket number.....

"this ticket belongs to the car registration number S954 SVP"

I quickly hung up as it is not my registration number, they have the 9 where there should be a letter. Now obviously if they punch that registration number into their system it wont come up with my car, hell it wont come up with any car surely?!

Anyways have I got away with this as surely the wrong registration number would mean the ticket becomes invalid? What would I have to do next if that is the case?

Cheers

*UPDATE*

So I called them today, general customer enquires, told her what the problem was......she lol'd! Anyways she then put me through to the appropriate department who informed me that I was to photocopy the slip and send it down to them and they would cancel the ticket as this was an error on their part!

I would obviously like confirmation it has been done however so would it be wise to put my address as a return address on the letter?

*UPDATE*

Canceled :D

Cheers,
John

I mean if I knew it was an NCP I wouldnt have parked there and got a free space on the streets but oh well!

Do you guys think I should do anything? Like contact the appeals address with a letter to confirm why I am not paying it to them and feel I should not have to as the car has been identified incorrectly?

Don't do a thing. :)

Certainly does look like you've avoided it. If they have the wrong plate number, surely there's no way of them tracking you? :D

Yeah but even with the cameras I technically cant log on to make the payment to my charge as my registration doesnt work.

Also the plate they have taken down isnt even technically valid as its never been released as it doesnt work as the prefix should be 2xletter 2xnumbers.

I had a look around forums and people seem to suggest to wait it out but if I choose to appeal to the charge then I risk having to pay it somehow but also I protect myself from paying the increased charge as the appeal means I delay the payment.....hmmmmm! I may email them or something in reference to this, wont be mentioning my registration tho ;)

WAY off topic but there are plenty of S reg cars out there in the format Snnn xxx - mine being one of them!

Don't do anything. Don't send an email, don't call anyone. They have an incorrect registration written down, so they cannot link the car to you. If somehow they manage to track you down and demand payment, tell them that you tried but the payment website wouldn't accept your details.

:) Best plan of action.

I was going with the DVLA thing, which states its an invalid registration!

Personalised ones are completely different but the DVLA wont dish out a Snnn xxx plate by the looks of things!

My gf's mum's friend is one of the many hated....a traffic warden....gonna speak to her anyways but I think I'm going to sit on it and wait to see what they do, cant imagine they would track me down, even if they do I can challenge it.
