The Zombie Invasion Strategy Thread

If your going to be a leader...don't be a melon about it.

Unlike the guy in the latest thing Dead set, although he wasn't the leader obviously at first....but you know what I mean.

But I guess that kinda falls under ten-ish.

After seeing things like 28 days later and I am Legend etc. I came to the conclusion that if it actually happened, I'd rather end my own life than live in complete and utter terror :(

They should have got the right things from the supermarket and made petrol bombs to effectively kill all the zombies at the gate..

Petrol Bombs would be very useful.

Would a zombie invasion actually be possible? Is it actually possible for that to EVER happen?

Having read World War Z recently it really brings home how scary a zombie invasion would actually be - no idea where I'd go though ... but I'd make sure to take my air rifle with me for starters at least!

I was talking about you though ;) Don't let it go to your head!

My first priority would be for the survival of the group. Getting consensus about major decisions is important although it shouldn't be the only decision making mechanism. If you don't have people's support you can't lead, but you sometimes need to make decisions quickly and democracy isn't the way to go about it.

Toally agree.

What about when you get to this said island? What about shelter, food and other basics? You also limit you chance of rescue and IMO you're stronger as a group then on your own, if only for moral support in such a stressful time.

My first choice of island would be the inhabited self sufficent comunity type. if they turned out to be infested i'd possibly set course for an uninhabited one, possibly St Kilda, once there i'd build shelters and attempt to culitivate the land, there is wild sheep there and fresh water which would help you get started.

The seas there are very unforgiving and could wreck your boat and chances of ever leaving so i'd probably set about building some kind of dock for it.

See, what I never get about some of these films lately...Why the hell do the phones suddenly stop working? I can understand some phone lines going bust.

But mobiles? They don't just 'stop' working surely?...they are kind of un-manned sometimes.

God knows what I'd be like in this kind of situation anyway, never really been in a state of 'survival mode' before.

LOL can't believe this thread, me and the mates have been discussing such things in the pub after having followed Dead Set, and was thinking of starting a thread to see if anyone else ever seriously thought about what they'd do in a Dead Set / 28 ........ scenario

Some of the things suggested were to destroy your staircase but leave a rope to the landing to climb up if required but retracted when not in use so it was impossible to get upstairs, and to also live in the attic / loft

Other idea was to live on the roof of your local supermarket, no idea which film that came from ;)

I think about it more than perhaps it's right to do so, but I think maybe not in our lifetime but at some time something like this could happen if theres ever a wierd epidemic, nerve warfare, you might think I'm mad for even thinking it but I genuinely believe it to not be impossible

The mobile phone system is hugely vunerable. Power outages, overloading and other technical issues could render vast numbers of cell towers out of order.

Oh don't worry, it is indeed highly possible.

Suppose it would be a very far along mad type of rabies or something.

Yeah power I can understand, but in all these films the power is normally there.

I have spent many hours later at night discussing this with housemates. I would got my work. It's easly defended and has the facilities for long term survival.

How would you go for supplies? My work place has an area that we could quickly get a minibus in and out of easily for raiding parties.

Bit random, but who's gonna be honest and say they've actually thought about having supplies in their house that are long term supplies for either this scenario or the after effects of some nuclear type mess ? Despite thinking about the scenario I've yet to go this far but again it's a case of never say never :D

ie medical, tinned or dry food that lasts for ages and ages etc

If they are comprimised then they threaten the safety of the group and should be left. However, I would not use them as human shields or a diversion if that what you are suggesting. Lets not toally lose our humanity

Bit of both really, there are some people who I'd quite happily abandon to their fate but (un)fortunately they are currently several thousand miles distant so we'll forget about that plan.

I thought I covered that? But yes this is very important to consider when making a plan.

My apologies, you did under your seventh point, I was skim-reading and missed it the first time round.

I'm glad it wasn't just me who thought that a petrol bomb at the gates would have been a good first step and give a decent chance of escape.

I live near a farm where they have a large collection of shotguns and combine harvesters. The combine really would be my weapon of choice! :D

Are we talking about old fashioned slow zombies or this new breed of lightening fast ones??
