Maybe not the right place but sorry if it is.

Ok, when i open 'my computer' and try to open my c:\ instead of opening it opens search. to actually get into my c:\ i have to right click it and then click open/explore.

When i right click c:\. Search is at the top in bold, not open

Been like this for a litle while and its starting to get annoying.

Hopefully a mod will move this thread into the Software section for you.

But you could try a system restore with the XP cd if you haven't tried to do so already.

Have you also checked for viruses etc.

So you did a full system restore, which takes about 30 minutes.

Check "Show hidden files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" through the 'Tools' > 'Folder Options' menu. If there's an autorun.inf in C:\ delete it.

Might work, might not. My sister was having a similar problem and it worked.

I just read that actually, however there is a virus, that stops you from unhiding the file...

So you have to do it via the command console.

You've changed the default action, which off the top of my head I can't remember how to change back.

Well yes, if he can't unhide the hidden items, then I guess that's an easy way to tell
